Daydream Believer

I was going to call this post "Why Do We Do It?".  What am I referring to?  Entering Contests.  Do you do that? Do you enter Publisher's Clearing House every year? Do you buy raffle tickets? How about lottery tickets? I don't do the lottery thing unless it's ginormous and everyone at work is throwing in their $2.  Hey, I don't want to be the only one left working if we win! Also we don't chip in as a group unless it's a big payout.  Who wants to win only a few measly million?  Do we enter because we're sure we will win? Do we enter because we're just hoping we're going to win but don't think we really have a chance in h@^^ of taking home the prize? For over 20 years I've played the HGTV Dream House contest.  They build a big, beautiful home and throw in a few extra goodies like a car, $250,000 in cash and also a doggy dream house for your furbaby.  Of course I've never won.  Somebody always does win and they show it on TV as they sneak up and surprise them at work or home or whatever and hand them a bunch of balloons and a giant fake check....or maybe that's Publisher's Clearing House...whatever.  Anyway, I play.  I don't really want/need a house. I love my own home.  The car is kind of tempting because we're looking at getting  a new one and are trying to decide what we want. If I would win one the decision is made for me! Ha! At work one of our Docs is always telling me how he's going to win the Dream Home.  He's an anesthesiologist so he stands on the other side of the sterile drapes and always says: "Hey Starko, (yes, they all call me Starko at work) I'm going to win that house!" He then holds up his phone and pushes the entry button.  So we banter back and forth about which one of us is going to win. (me..just sayin')  It's fun to think about winning a great prize and how you'd spend the money. How you could move into a big new house or, if  you're me, how you would be thanking the HGTV folks while Jack was outside pounding in the "For Sale" sign in the front yard.  So why do we do it?  Well, it's fun to dream.  I have a sign in my house with lots of encouraging snippets about life.  One of the lines on my sign says: "Dreaming does matter. It allows you to become what you aspire to be."  Now, maybe I'll never win that house and money and Arnold won't have the doggy dream home to eat his kibble in. And Jack and I will have to make up our minds and buy that new (used) car ourselves.  But there's always that thought in the back of your mind...the one that says that somebody is going to win so why not me?  Reality is saying the only thing I usually win..or get for free..are those free postal labels that come in "begathon" envelopes. Yes, I keep them even if I don't donate. (Don't judge!)

Today I got a $10 off anything in the store from the Fin, Feather , and Fur. Oh, and that tube of antibiotic ointment was a freebie from work.
That's sort of like winning if I want a gun or knife or some other outdoorsy thing, right? Well, keep on being a Daydream Believer.  Enter the contests, buy the tickets, dream big..
Dream about visiting me when I win the Dream Home! Don't worry, there's always next year!

My mom used to say "someone has to win" when she would enter a contest. She never won big LOL but she had fun imagining if she did. I think we all like that "what if" we won. I hear sometimes those who have won the lottery how many tickets they had played over years to finally win something. Got to play to win I guess. I am like you; the occasional ticket when the jackpot is high otherwise I totally forget about them :)

We won a box of pastries at Panera the other day. The kids were so excited! It can totally happen. A box of pastries is comparable to a new dream house, right? Just remember us little people when you win!

I won a relaxation basket from a raffle at the library and I was as excited as if I won the lottery. It is all about the mindset I think.
Good luck on the dream house I think my daughter tries for that every year too!

Mrs. C enters the PCH contests. THat involves filling something out and sending it in about three times a week...it never stops! It is still fun deciding what to do with the money $5000 a week for life when we do win. So far it seems we will be very generous.

I would sell the Dream Home in a hot minute and pocket the cash! :-D They probably have a rule against that.

I won a garden hose once when I was 13. Last week I won $10 in the FL Lottery. That $4 only cost me $75 probably.
But yes I do play the Lottery fairly regularly. I do it to help our state school system??? Okay maybe to win hahahahaha. When we backpacked thru a state that had a lottery I would always buy a ticket, then the next 50 miles of hiking I would think of how to spend it. LOL

Good post.... Yep we enter, we know the odds, but my daddy said, "Someone will win!"

I used to enter the HGTV Dream House contest, but gave up on it. Even if I won, I'd have to sell it because I don't want to leave my hometown...plus I wouldn't be able to afford to pay the taxes on it! In fact, if I won anything of value I'd probably have to sell it!!! It would be VERY NICE to win Publ. Cl. House though...I think I would make a very nice rich person. I'd give to my church and I'd share (with nice people)! Boy can I think of a LOT of things I could do with that money!!!!! I'm not a very "lucky" person (even though my last name is Luckie...lol). But it's always nice to dream. My hubby did win $750 on the superbowl though...missed winning $1000 more by one measly point...boohoo! Good Luck...if I ever play and win a really big lottery I'll send you a few bucks...told you I'd share with nice people.

I admit I enter “giveaways” on Instagram all the time for a chance to win products. I have actually won several of them. Yes we keep those address labels too! Ha ha.

Yep, each time we go to a state that sells lottery tickets, we buy one. Just thinking about winning millions gives us a little bit of pleasure. I’m sure if we one, things would probably not go as planned.
