Let's Leap Together!

I rarely blog 2 days in a row.  However, I couldn't let Leap Year Day pass without posting.  I started blogging in 2008 and my first post was February 29th.  I talked about a few things but mostly I was cheering the fact I had just turned 55 and that meant no surgery call anymore.  Well, leaping ahead to 2016,  that call rule was thrown out and anyone working in our department has to take call...even if your 100.  I was dumb enough to mention that the call Gods were good to me this weekend.  As soon as I finished last nights post I got ready for bed, hopped in, and was just about asleep when the call phone went off...darn it!  I had to go in a help with a C-section.  That little baby was born after midnight so only a b-day every 4 years for him!  I just went back and looked at my Leap day post from 2012 to see how and what I was doing.  It was a post about blogging.  It was a post about how anyone could blog and how the blog has been a journal tool for me.  Leaping ahead to 2016 again, I was wrestling with the idea of not blogging anymore.  I've decided to continue.  I don't know how many more Leap Days I'll post about but for now I'll continue with my journal. I turn my posts into a book at the end of each year.
This year's isn't done yet but hopefully it will be soon.  The first book I did had 2yrs in it because I didn't post as much as I do now.  They are full of the small, simple things that make up a life.  They document the good and sometimes the bad and many times tributes to those who have passed.  I want to preserve these for my kids and Grandkiddos.  I would have loved to have had a journal from my Dad or any ancestors for that matter.  Those books contain photos too. A lot of photos.  If  you're a follower here at the Pines you already know that!  The funny thing is, my other 2 Leap Day posts contained no pics.  So I'm breaking tradition and adding  just 2 here today.
I took this tonight as the sun was setting over the pines.  The days are getting longer and today was picture perfect weather...50de and sunny.  Winter isn't done with us yet, but we had this extra, freebie day and I enjoyed it in it's simplicity and beauty.  I hope you had a blog worthy day too...let's face it, every day is a blog worthy day.

I'm so glad that you are keeping with the blogging. I like snooping in on your family celebrations and such. Looks like you had a perfect birthday. Nothing better than a nice kite-flying day! No report today on Chubbs and Eddy, so I hope they're getting along well.
Happy Birthday!

Well if you had to go in to help with surgery, at least it was to see a new little one come into the world and on a special day like this :) Happy blog anniversary date! So glad you are sticking around with blogging and I like your idea of turning every year's blogs into a book like you do.

Hi, dear YaYa!

This is a wonderful post for this special bonus day on the calendar, leap year day. Somehow I always end up misty-eyed by the time I read what you have written here. As I have often told you, spending time with you and your lovely family at the Pines makes me feel like I am back home again in more ways than one.

Just now I went back to your leap year day 2012 post, too, because I wanted to read my comment. It surprised me not to find one. It's not like me to skip a post by one of my dearest friends so I advanced to the newer post and then the next and the next. I was shocked because I still couldn't find any comments from Shady. I kept going through your posts one by one and was astonished to find that I needed to advance more than a year, to March 22, 2013, to find my very first comment on Whispering Pines! That should tell you something. I feel like I have known you forever, Kathleen, and it is hard to believe it has been less than three years. I will always be thankful that you reached out to me in March 2013 and extended the hand of friendship.

I'm so sorry that I jinxed you by mentioning your good fortune in not being summoned to the OR all weekend. However, maybe it was a blessing that you did get called in to work. Think of the opportunity you had to help bring a new life into the world - a leap year baby at that.

That is a beautiful picture of the leap year day 2016 sunset, dear YaYa. God willing I will be here posting a comment for you on Feb. 29, 2020.

Enjoy the rest of your week, dear friend!

Happy Birthday again Yaya...I'm glad you have decided to keep on blogging and I would miss you to like I miss the ones who were faithful followers who are not blogging anymore and those who quit because they could no longer figure out Blogger's constant changes.

I tried quitting a few times and was begged not to quit so I keep blogging at a slower speed. As you know, I've been printing my blog post starting in 2010 with comments and since I was dead tired each time I posted I had forgotten a lot of the posts and what really got my blood pumping again was being able to read the comments. They were life giving and you're right , it a great way to share what was going on in my life in words and picture for the kids and for the other generations.

Big hugs sweet lady.

Wondering, how long does it take you to drive to the hospital when you get "the call"? Taxes and babies just keep on coming, don't they?! So glad you're gonna keep up your blog - I would miss hearing about the Whispering Pines.

So glad you are going to continue blogging! And I do the blog books, too. They are turning into a nice, long bunch of journals!

Isn't it funny how blogging keeps us focused and by reading back issues we realize some topics were handled differently, and somehow what appeared important a year ago is no longer so important? Happy birthday, dear friend, and thanks for blogging, for keeping reminding us of what is most important in this crazy world.
