Flower Power

I took pics of some of the flowers at the Pines. With our heat and little rain they won't last forever. The hydrangeas will last longer than the daylilies and the petunias. This summer is flying by. The middle of July is already upon us and the stores are filled with school supplies and school lists. My "to do" list for around the house is still full and I'm hoping to get my rear in gear and actually accomplish something before fall. I've put up some jams and jellies and the elderberries are coming on so more jelly and probably a pie is in order. Next week there's a pie contest at our Church social..should I enter? Pies are not my strong suit but I'm up for a challenge. I've been assembling pics to perhaps enter in the County fair in September. Simple tasks just like those flowers..tasks that will be gone with the summer and in winter when it's freezing out I'll think back to this heat we've had and probably say "Ah, it wasn't so bad"...Then Jack will give me the "LOOK"...I can't explain the "LOOK" but the meaning is clear..He hates the heat!

I think a pie contest would be fun.. as long as I'm not doing the baking. ;)

Your flowers are lovely. I hope you get enough rain for them soon.

I know that look. I have mastered that look. I feel like a wilted flower :)
But your flowers are lovely.

Oh I carry that look with me most of the time in these hot days. I like cooler temps.

I'm sure that your pies would win hands down. I hope that you enter the pie contest.

Your flowers are lovely despite the heat.

Have a great week.

Hugs, JB

Love the flower pics. We had some good rain in North Texas this weekend, which rejuvenated the few plants I have left.

I am familiar with the "look" at my house.

I have to say that your comments are my absolute favorite. I have a document in which I save all of my favorite blog comments, and I always save yours. You put so much thought into them, and you are quite possibly the sweetest person I have ever known. I really appreciate all of your kind words. They mean the world to me.

You have some beautiful flowers there! It's funny how we always want summer back when we're in the thick of winter and vice versa.

Love the flower pics! Hydrangeas are a favorite of mine; I have 5 here and there in my yard and on the deck.
I was amazed at the gorgeous ones in France and Switzerland. They were everywhere we went, big colorful hedges of them. I don't recall if I managed to get any photos or not. I'll have to check on that!

I makes me so sad to see the school supplies out in the stores already, that means summer is flying by again, and it just barely got started here. I'm looking forward to seeing some flowers in my yard but I think I'm being rather optimistic! Your flower pics are lovely, love the hydrangea, top of the list for me. have a good week..;j

What gorgeous flowers. You are so fortunate to live in a climate where you can have such a lot of different kinds of flowers. We have floweres that grow in the summer, but they aren't as pretty as the ones that grow in the summer.

Thinking about your elderberies, we certainly did enjoy the sample of your canning last year. I thought you said you werent' going to make any more elderberry jam. Was I dreaming this?

I wish I could do some baking. I love to makes cakes (better than pies). When I make pies, I do the pie dough and then I turn it over to Dick to roll it out and fit it into the pie tins, then I go from there. I just hate to roll pie dough for some reason and when he worked at the bakery, he used to make up to 90 pies a day!! That was in addition to other things too! He can throw a pie together faster than you can imagine. He didn't have to make the filling or the pie dough though, so it didn't take quite as long to do make them as you would think.

Oh, how lovely.... reminds me of that old poem we memorized many many years ago:
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
