A Day In The Life

Yesterday Jack had to have surgery to repair another hernia. It's OK, I'm not breaking any HIPA laws in divulging this info. I have his permission..maybe not his blessing, but his permission! The surgery went fine. All the players involved did a great job. He had a rough night, but is feeling better now. I thought I would show you a start to finish day in the life of a surgery patient and also some of the wonderful people I work with who do the very best for everyone who walks through the door. I was able to pic my team members to take care of Jack. Donna (Starkey Hollow) was kind enough to say she'd scrub for him. I took care of her hubby Larry a few times and so we try to take care of each other! Thanks Donna! She's a sweetie. If you follow her blog, you already know that!
Shay is the circulating nurse in the OR. She is in command here. Shay took care of Jack last time so I asked for a repeat performance. She gets the patients and helps the Docs and gets supplies for us scrub nurses and her favorite part of the job is running the computer. That's just a joke...all the nurses hate that thing! She's blurry here because she's always in a hurry to get the surgeries started on time. And she has 6 kids so running is her life! Thanks for taking such good care of Jack, Shay!
Hello Dr. Mary McDonald! She's a really good general surgeon..I also consider her a friend who loves to garden and tell me all her garden secrets! She's the only one I would let touch my family. I don't know why she's squinting here...probably because I caught her on a dead run to get to the OR for Jack! Besides being an awesome surgeon she's the mother of 5 kiddos and her hubby's a Dentist. So her life is only a tiny bit busy.
This is probably your best friend in the OR. He's the anesthesiologist..gas passer...the pilot in charge of the take offs and landings. The most important part of the surgery. Keeps you pain free while "under" and makes sure you wake up nicely at the end. This is Dr. Frazee. Isn't he cute? I should have asked him to take his mask down so you could enjoy his cuteness. If he reads this he may choke me...nah, he's our buddy and he and Jack have a good friendship. Sometimes Jack will come to the hospital and give Dr. F an adjustment...really! Jack makes hospital calls to only his best friends! Many times..like last week on Dr. F's birthday, I will make him his fav request...a Texas sheet cake. He may have just earned another one!
Here's nurse Sonie (or as I call her...Sonic Boom!)She's the first to take care of you and the last to see you out the door. She works in our pre-op area. She made me laugh when I found out she actually ran downstairs to find a hanger for Jack's clothes so he wouldn't have to stuff them in a plastic bag. Now that's a caring, over the top nurse.
Yep, here he is already to take on this adventure. Jack's a good sport about my camera...really he is!
I went with him down the long cold hallway on the way to OR #2. Nice socks!
This is the final pic of Jack...he made it through the surgery fine and went home late afternoon. Unfortunately he wasn't feeling as good as the last time he had surgery so I decided no more pics, he'd had enough. He's just happy it's over!

It sounds as if Jack's surgery was a success! I do hope that this recovery will be short and complete. So nice that you could take all those pictures in the O.R. I think it is interesting that Jack was okay with that! Most men would rebel. Sorry he had a harder time that he did the last time though. I'll bet he is hoping that this will be his last surgery. Will he have to be in the hospital for awhile? If you have to work, maybe he won't come home for a few days, or will you get leave to take care of him at home? My son in law came home the same day after a few hours in the recovery room when he had his hernia operation and I don't think that was a good idea. He is still suffering from that operation. I'm so glad that you were able to pick his team because having a really good surgeon is so imortant.

Take care Jack and get well soon!!

Interesting day in the life of a patient. I'm glad the surgery went okay. We'll drop off his cupcake treat later. Let us know how we can help.

Woo woo woo Jack! :-( Sorry you had to go through that..and AGAIN no less!...But it looks like you were in the best hands possible!...Thanks for sharing this with us Yaya. It made me a little homesick for the hospital....Well, kinda sorta. As a care-GIVER, not as a patient. Oh No!! Not as a patient! I'll leave the great patient-being to Jack! ^_^

It looks like Jack was in good hands. I hope he is feeling better. Thanks for the tour. When I had my thyroid surgery they left me on the table while they rushed half of the gland to the lab in case they had to remove more. That night I asked the surgeon what they did while I was asleep and they were waiting. He said they played crazy 8's on my stomach. Lol. Does that happen?? :)

You are lucky to be able to pick your own team. That must be so comforting to know firsthand that your hubby is getting the best possible care.

Glad he's through the worst of it!

=)

Poor guy! Now that's a sport...letting you blog all about his surgery. Sorry he had a bad night and hope things are getting better.
You are right though...we certainly have a wonderful little hospital that takes good care of people!
Ps. Let everyone know that it wasn't the same side as last time...it was a whole new thing!

Now that what I call a great team to work with. Your husband is a very handsome patient and good sport too. I'm glad that the surgery is over and he's recuperating and that he has you to take care of him at home.

I love your new blog look too. Have a great weekend. Hugs. JB

I gave my daughter orders to marry a chiropractor, but she ended up with a dentist (we joke that at least he's not a gynocologist!). We figure that between my husband and I, we've bought our chiro a summer home or two, so would love to have one who's a friend or relative who makes house calls! Anyway, glad your honey is ok, and enjoyed photos of his team.

I wish quick recovery for your husband. It is nerve wracking for the family when any kind of surgery takes place. My kids and I were going crazy three years ago when my husband had the triple bypass. Thank God he is doing good. You take care of yourself as well. I am sure you must have been drained out.

Get well soon, Jack! Isn't it wonderful that you have such a great staff to choose from - makes the whole ordeal a lot better. Hope Jack is up and around very soon!

Sounds like you had the "A" team on this one. Good job.

I am so happy that he is doing okay! I have had more than my fair share of hospital experiences, so I know how scary and uncomfortable it can be. You're right -- The anesthesiologist really is your best friend. :) Send my best to Jack!

Yaya,I never doubted for a moment that you are an ADDer!!! Your blog definitely portrays that. Like you said, I'm sure I've been each at some time or another but I too hope I've given more than I've taken. You may definitely use this anytime you want. It really did go over well with our ladies. Several asked me for a copy. Jack doesn't look to happy in that picture and I can definitely identify. I enjoyed your post but it brought back memories of where I was in Jan., 2011!!! Surgery is NO fun...the worst part being the needle they stick in you before they put you to sleep. Never have understood why they can't do that after they knock you out! Glad the surgery went well. Hope Jack has a super quick recovery!

You are such a hoot. Talk about taking the camera everywhere we bloggers go. lol
Jack is such a good patient and hubby. Glad it all went well with him and he can rest now.
Thanks honey for your never ending support and prayers for me.
My son was diagnosed with Iga-Nephropathy which has me devastated. I had never heard of this before yesterday. We don't know yet the damage that has already been done to his kidneys.
I did not mention him in my post because he reads it.
I am trying to be strong. Thanks for your prayers
Love
Maggie

Well you sure don't get to see someone all the way into the OR via camera every day. Cool job of documenting his surgery and I hope he's feeling much better by now.
