Germs And Things

This past week I picked up a germ somewhere along my travels.  I can pretty much pin it down to one of our Docs I had the misfortune of working with the previous week.  She was sick, but worked anyway, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who was the recipient of her germs.  Even wearing a mask all day didn't save me. However, I would really love to blame it on the flu shot.  I'm not one to get sick often but since I've been forced to take the shot I've been sick more than usual for me.  I know, I know, the shot doesn't make you sick...blah, blah, blah.  I just hate being forced to do things I guess!  But I also continued to work so I guess I'm just as bad as her in the germ spreading business.  I was trying to think of some things to blog about this week.  I'm on call this weekend so my travels were limited to a certain radius around Ashland.  That didn't stop us from going to a new orchard we discovered.  The ones in Ashland have closed so we had to seek out another.  This one's about a 30 minute drive from here and it's a honey of a place.  I love a good, crunchy, sweet and tart apple and I think the 2 we found fit the bill.  Ever Crisp and Gold Rush are delicious if you have them in your neck of the woods.  We love the charming little store that I didn't bother to take a picture of...silly me!  We left with our arms full of apples, apple butter, some treats and even an apple cider slushy!  Throw in some fresh popped corn and it was a win win. They even had a fire in the fireplace.  Next trip I'll snap a few pics for sure!  On another front, my sweet Momma was in the hospital for a few days.  Her heart rate was high and she also had a bladder infection so after a few days and some antibiotics she was sent home.  We'll be out there in a few weeks with the rest of my siblings so hopefully she'll continue in good health.  The weather has warmed up to the 40's and I even washed some windows yesterday.  When the sun shines it just makes you smile.  Speaking of smiling...I have to have a root canal done on Thursday.  I hope this silly cold is done by then. I get a bit claustrophobic in that chair while they're working on me.  Jack would probably say I get anxious because I'm not able to talk for a while....He might be right! Anyway, it's not really something to look forward too. Instead  I'll look forward to next Sunday when all the kids come for our Thanksgiving.  We're going to celebrate early because other family members have places to go.  Maybe on the real turkey day Jack and I and anyone who wants to come with us will go out to dinner.  Sounds good to me! Hope everyone has a great week and maybe I'll even have some pics for my next post.  Just wipe off your computer screen so you don't get my germs!

Spraying the screen with Lysol as I type this comment :) Seriously, hope you feel better soon! Nothing worse than being sick and then pushing through a workday! Sounds like a delightful outing to the orchard! Who can resist apple cider this time of year! Had a root canal a few years back; wasn't too bad :) If you plan to go out for Thanksgiving, check to see what is opened and if any take reservations. Found out a few years ago not much in the area was opened (besides Denny's LOL) and those that were opened either didn't have any times left for reservations or didn't take them and had long waits. We're having our family get together tomorrow since everyone has other plans for the actual Thanksgiving day.

Strange how a person so dedicated to continue to work when sick cna do so much damage. That aside Orchards this time of the year are wonderful. I am an apple lover. I love the crisp apple that 'cracks' wen I bite into it. Since I eat them year round I prefer the red delicious, but at this time many crisp apples are good. I learned to love the Empire Apple in NY.
SWEET entry and hope you are better SOON!

Hi, YaYa!

Sorry you have been poorly, dear friend. From her years of working as a hospitalist nurse practitioner, Mrs. Shady can testify that bugs often make the rounds, passed along by doctors, nurses, patients and visiting family members. Occasionally she brings a bug home with her. I wish you well as you recover. That root canal sounds about as much fun as a root canal. :) I hope you are feeling much better by Thursday so that you can get it over with and not need to reschedule, prolonging the agony. I have also been thinking about your dear mother ever since you told me she was taken to the hospital. I know sis is taking good care of her and I pray that she bounces back to 100% in time to enjoy the holidays.

On a lighter note, your trip to the orchard sounds delightful. I'd love to taste a cider slushy along with fresh hot popcorn. It turned sharply cooler down here since you and I last corresponded. The fresh, clean, brisk air is helping to get me into a holiday spirit.

Take good care of yourself in the days ahead, dear friend YaYa. I'll be thinking about you and about your mother.

I get the Old Folks flu shot each year that protects against a bunch of kind of flu. It also protects against corns, bursitis, and muscle cramps. Well, maybe not muscle cramps:)

Get to feeling better soon.

So sorry that you got sick again and that you also need a root canal. When I get a cold which is not often, I usually get a very nasty one. I've have not gotten my flu shot for the last two years and neither has my husband. My doctor usually recommended a flu shot since I have had cancer but she has retired since her cancer came back. I have a new doctor. My aunt got violently sick with a flu shot some years back and it took her a whole year to feel normal she said.

Here it's winter. All the apple orchards have been closed for quite a while. I could kick myself for not going to pick apples this fall to dehydrate. I eat them like candy. I put them in jars so they stay crisp.

Take care and get better soon.
Hugs, Julia

Always a dilemma, work with a cold and infect others, stay home and get accused of slacking or being a wimp.

I've had several root canals. My regular dentist did them. On the last one he sent me to a specialist. I asked why he wouldn't do it. He said this one was a bit complicated, but he probably could do it if I really wanted him to try. I decided to go to the specialist and he told me that was probably a good choice.

My mom got terribly sick from the flu shot, and she never had another one. She is 85 now and that was 15 years ago. She still swears she got sick from that shot. Hope your mom is doing better. Janice

So sorry you got sick. Glad your mom is home and on the mend. I like day excursions like your one to the orchard. There’s always something nearby to check out. Happy Thanksgiving to your crew a few days early.
