Pure Michigan

Do you have the TV commercial about Michigan?  Since we're Michigan's downstairs neighbors we do get them and it makes the state of Michigan look wonderful...and it is..."Pure Michigan"... beautiful lakes, and rivers and camping and fun,  It was the perfect place for our Boy Scouts to pick for the high adventure trip for 2015.  The middle of the mitten was a sweet spot...although a bit chillier than they thought and a bit rainy at the end of the week.  In fact, they headed home on Friday instead of Saturday.  Did I mention mutant mosquitoes? Yikes!  But they had fun and a good experience and all survived.
Loaded up by 5am...yawn!
Stop for lunch for a little bite of a tiny sandwich...Yum...bacon!
Setting up camp.
Getting bikes ready.
The river....
Loading up the canoes.
Boys ready?
Heading out...
Stopping on the way for lunch.
Or fishing!
Kyle caught one!
More camping on the river.
Almost sunrise...
More camping...
Torrential rains at the end...
But Jack says it was a good trip and lots of fun....way to go guys!  Glad you're home...you were missed!

It does look pretty there! I haven't seen any commercials to visit Michigan, but its probably because I'm on the West Coast (ish). Looks like they had a good time except for the rain and the mosquitoes. That was one big sandwich with that bacon!

Good too that everyone who went came home okay :) Always good when that happens :)

Don't recall seeing the Michigan commercial down south. It is beautiful, though. That first picture of a tent looks like a house. Glad they had a great time.

Hi, dear YaYa! I'm glad Jack and the boys made it back home safe and sound. I am also happy to see that the rain held off until the end of their stay in Michigan. Looks like they had a wonderful adventure up there and memories to last a lifetime. I hope you are enjoying your weekend, dear friend YaYa!

I've never seen a commercial for Michigan, but you kinda just did one. It looks like a beautiful river to camp by and canoe on. Very nice. That sandwich looked good. One of my friend's husband leads a scout troop and they do something like this every year. So glad that guys like him and your husband are willing to lead these boys and be such good role models.

Michigan is one of the few states we have never visited. We just returned from a river cruise on the Mississippi.

Looks like beautiful scenery, but a little tame. I think the high adventure was the bacon sandwich! I've never taken a Michigan trip, but maybe I should. Even though I'm not a bacon fan. :)

Jilda and I visited my Army buddy in Grand Rapids many years ago. We spent a weekend at a lake house on Benton Harbor. It was a stunningly beautiful place.

Those adventures look like one heck of an experience.

We get those Michigan commercials here in California too - and it always looks so beautiful. One day I'd love to go there and see for myself. Hope you're doing well. Life for me has been so busy - hard to find the time to blog, but I try every so often, if only to have it for my own journal.

Never been to Michigan but there is some place there that has dunes and it was voted THE prettiest beach in the USA on one of the morning TV shows a few years ago.
Can't remember the name of it but the photos of it were lovely!

My family lived in Kalamazoo, MI for 3 years, we loved it, well, most of it. We used to see the Pure Michigan commercials back then, with Michigander Tim Allen providing the narration.

Wow, how picturesque! It was fun to get in on a little Michigan. My son and his family hit Cedar Point and Niagra Falls this week...went to a wedding at Geneva- on -the-Lake. Now they're checking out Toronto.
Your "mutant mosquito" words took me back to the Boundary Waters where we camped out in May. Vicious mosquitos drove us out of there.

This reminds me of our days living in Florida and camping on the river. So much fun but it was with our own children.. I miss those days. Michigan is a place I am unfamiliar with..but it looks beautiful and like a lot of fun.

Wish we did get those commercials way down here in Texas but we don't. I spent a summer on the lake there years ago and loved every minute. I hate they had rain and giant mosquitoes. I thought they only existed on our Gulf coast where I grew up.
I remember reading about Jack's other trips and I always admire him for taking the boys for these summer adventures. Something they will always look back on when their older and remember the good times.
I hope you are well. I am trying to take care of myself. Of course I am still not blogging like I want to be.
We have had nothing but rain from the storm in the Gulf. Lucky winds weren't as bad as the rain.
Take care and enjoy your weekend.
Love
Maggie
