Snipets

I'm on call this weekend for the first time in 3yrs. I've had some adjusting to do to get through this. I have always hated call and after 3yrs I'm still hating it! We had a rule in our department that said after age 55 you didn't have to take call. I was so excited to reach that mile stone. It took the sting out of getting older! I think they originally thought no one would be working past that age. Well, that didn't happen. There are 5 of us in surgery who are over 55. The younger staff started getting mad and making many complaints that they were being over worked and it wasn't fair to them. Well, the rule got reversed and here we are. None of us were happy about it and it was very tense the last few months. It's been a stresser but I've had to move forward and do the best I can. One day all the younger staff will reach this age. In fact, many of them are in worse shape than us "oldies" and probably won't even be able to work to our age. So I have been tied to my phone and running back and forth from the hospital to home. Not much to blog about except the crazy weather! Here are just a few "snipets" of my past week and some from this weekend.
I made a pie this week for a coworkers birthday "carry in"...They say it tasted really good. I didn't have any because I'm trying to stay away from that stuff, but I was pleased with how it turned out. Pies and bread are not my strong points in cooking...but this was fun!
Early in the week Eddy and I went on a hike to the Creepy Woods and all he cared about was he favorite drinking hole..it makes him lick his lips with joy!
Last weekend we were covered in snow and then "poof", it was gone. Then this Saturday I woke up to see all this frosting on the trees and grass. Again we had a mini blizzard!
It came down in big flakes with big winds to match. But by the afternoon..the sun was out, the snow was almost all gone and here's how it looked:
Yesterday across the road you could see a lovely sunset beginning.
Fast forward to today about 45 minutes ago when I took this shot from the livingroom window...heaven help us..
Wait! I just took this pic from the computer room window...The sun is back, the snow has stopped...
Oh brother...if you ever meet one of us "Ohioans" and we have a funny tic or are always looking at the sky with crazy eyes..we're just a bit confused about what Mother Nature is brewing to send our way...and brewing to change in a wink of an eye. Hope your snipets of this coming week are more exciting than mine!

I think Mother Nature herself is confused. It is a different thing that we have been spared the hastles of snow storms. Thank God for that.
I understand how us ( the older generation ) are working harder than most of our younger counterparts. Some younger people had complainded that people who did vendor audit had it easy, so now I am doing something else, my jub is being done by some people who are having trouble even reading the names of different shades of colours. So I understand your sitauation one hundred percent. Hang in there.

Sorry about the being on call thing. Harder the older we get.
Someone at work is always unhappy. At least that was my experience.
I'm happy to be retired and at home with hubs with the freedom to do what I want with my life.
Which of course is writing my stories.
Loved the photos you took. Beautiful.
I agree- our OH weather is crazy. Seems it is everywhere.
Have a great week. Blessings, Barb

Ha! Ha! Ha! Your comment about the 'funny tic or always looking at the sky with crazy eyes' made me holler out loud!!! ^_^ We have that same disorder here in Massachusetts these days! We're also always asking each other: "What month is this?!" I can't believe we're heading into FEBRUARY and there's not a lick of snow anywhere!!...Oh Well! We're gonna take it a day at a time...tics and all! LOL

You pie was just fantastic! I am NOT on a diet...I guess that is apparent. If I ever lose weight, you'll know it was just stress. You're snow pics are mystical, great shots! I'll be interested to hear about your weekend, oh me. That's my fate next weekend.

It sounds more like March weather than January. That pie is mouth-watering. Sorry to hear about the call situation. It's too bad the youngers were given that much power, but as you said, they'll be not so young one day, and maybe then they'll get it.

Lol. I think Mother Nature is a little tipsy this winter. She can't seem to make up her mind this year. The on-call thing sucks for you. The "young" ones in my office don't think they have to pay their dues either.

I don't think I would handle being on call very well. I'm a naturally nervous, anxious person, and I think I would drive myself crazy wondering if the phone would ring or whatever. I can just see it ... *shudder* Plus, Mr. A would go crazy because I would be crazy ... It would be a nightmare.
... Can you tell I'm hyper and anxious? It's probably better if I am not on call.

In my opinion (be I right or be I wrong) the younger generation just do not have the work ethic of us 50 and over crowd. Many that I come in contact with want it ALL, they want it NOW, and they don't want to work for it. Of course, there are some great young people out there and I'm sure many work very hard to take care of their families, but there are just too many that want the easy way out. Oh, well....we all get older and learn many life lessons along the way. Thanks for the great pictures. Sure wish we could get some of your cool weather. It's been crazy warm here in south GA this month. I want to build a fire in the fireplace and curl up with my blankie and book, but instead I've had to turn on the air conditioner a few times! Hope you make it through "call" and have a great week.

Being on call is no fun. Especially in snow and ice. Your pictures are so pretty though. It's hard to hold it against Morher Nature when she looks so gorgeous.

Boy I remember how excited you were to turn 55 and not have to be on call! Darn youngins :) I was sitting on the coach yesterday reading and looked up to a blizzard what the heck crazy crazy Ohio weather.

I wish the weather would make up its mind. My students are dropping like flies 5-6 absent per day there for awhile. It's hard keeping up with them all.

Sorry about you being on call. Maybe they will change it back?!

Those images are so pretty! I'm sure it must drive you crazy, but for someone who has very little weather change, it's just beautiful to behold.

What crazy weather you have out there! We always joke about our Pacific Northwest changeable weather, "If you don't like the weather, wait a few minutes and it will be different." But, nothing like Ohio!! Besides, it does rain a lot around here, just very little snow in the lowlands.

I love the photos. I'm so sorry about being on call, and think it's awful. I hope it won't be required too often.

Nope..yours were a LOT more exciting. We had temps up to 80 all week. Seems the weather is really strange this year..everywhere. I LOVED this post..a view into your everyday life...it was great. I haven't been "on call" for so many years I can't remember. It's wonderful being retired..totally wonderful.
Pie! My very favorite dessert!

I Yaya, cause I don't know what to call you... I was typing a comment on your blog and all of a sudden the page disappeared and so I found your blog again and started typing again but the comment appeared on my own blog. I'm getting very tired so I'm calling quit for tonight. I can read the signs of being over tired. You will have to go read it on my blog for this time. Sorry about my clumsiness. JB

That pie looks so yummy! What kind was it? It almost looks like it has a glaze on top.

I still love your creepy woods and all that snow makes it look so different! That water hole doesn't look very big.

It's crazy that you have to be on call again. You gals work hard enough when you are on duty. I hate to see you having to do that. How often do you have to be on call, anyway?
