No Whispering Here

I thought I would go and pull weeds yesterday afternoon. I gathered up the tools and headed to the planting area across the driveway in the front. This bush on the end was getting unruly and in my way when I would mow around that area. So I took the trimmers and wacked at it. Can you see the fallen shrubbery? As I came around the bush I chopped right into a hornets nest..Wham! They were not too happy. I dropped my tools and yelled at Eddy to run! He was already yelping and getting stung. We flew to the house so fast I don't even remember my feet touching the ground! I ran in the house screaming and yanking my clothes off. Jack came running and I'm thinking that I can't believe I'm not stung and then a little nasty stings me on my thigh which sends me yanking off my capris too! I'm sure I looked hilarious but boy that sucker stung! The hornet came flying out and Jack made sure it had a short life..Thanks Babe! Now I understand post traumatic stress..every time something would fly by me I was jumping and twitching! I'm just glad my grandkiddos didn't find it first. It was so low in the bush, usually they hang up in the trees and don't bother anyone. They won't bother anyone anymore, that's for sure. Poor Eddy had welts on him, but he's doing fine. He got an extra doggy treat and some ibuprofen to soften the sting. I'm sure he got stung more because he was lower to the ground and that means he took the hit for me. Sorry Eddy, but thanks!
Here are the little buggers...well the dead little buggers. Jack and Jordan went out last night and sprayed 2 cans of wasp killer on it. It still smells like chemical! Good job guys. Those hornets are nasty, mean and pack a punch. I still can't believe I came out with only one sting..he managed to get in my capris...I could make a comment about that but I will abstain..
Hornets, and wasps are regular neighbors in the country. We've had a few run ins, like the summer Jack ran over a bees nest in the ground with the mower. He had a ton of stings..OUCH!..@#%^^%%... This was the little beauty from last summer that rocked our world. Jack insisted he could take it out himself...well, I decided to surprise him and have an exterminator do the dirty deed. The nice exterminator man assured me it would "weather" off...in what... 150yrs???? I know it's empty, but it still gives me the creeps. But I don't want anyone on a ladder climbing up to get it out...ladders are evil don't forget!

Holy crap, look at the size of that thing! And OUCH about the stings! We have jellow jackets and wasps, and there's not a summer I don't get stung, so I keep the benadryl handy (fyi, the dog can take it, too). They make their nests right up at the house in every little nook and cranny, including bird houses, umbrellas and bbq grills. We got the spray with that long stream that works really great, but you still have to be ready to run! Nasty little buggers...

that's a big sucker attached to your home. i wouldn't feel better until it was gone. did you run fast enough to make a track team? go more slowly when checking bushes and whatever, younever know what lurks . joke aside, hope all is well. have a good day. Rose

Sorry, but I think it was one of those things that really should have been on film, I can just imagine you running with a line of hornets behind you, glad you only got one bite, and luckily it wasn't in an "important" place..... hope you and Eddie feel better soon

Oh man those hurt! I am giggling just thinking about you running in tearing your clothes off. I was out in our side yard last summer when I got stung by 3 bees, pretty much the same scenerio - wild women yelling it is funny now - then not so much. I love reading your blog. I need to be a better blogger. I'll work at it :)

OH my gosh! Girl I am hurting just reading this post. I was just talking to Susan over at Art of Mine about bee stings and then I come over here and OMG u are talking about them and thank God you were not seriously hurt.
Its scary knowing how fast you can find one of their nest without knowing it. That is the one thing I dread when I start mowing again out here on all this land of hers. Lots of places to get in trouble.
Poor Eddie he must of really took the bites for you ...but honey please be careful I hate to think of you being hurt like that.
Miss coming by here. I am so behind on my blogging.
I am in awe over the size of that nest it would creep me out too.
Stay safe and give Eddie and kiss for me. poor baby
