Game Changers
Did you ever have a day planned and then something happens and things get changed, moved, or plain old cancelled? I call those "game changers". Sure, everyone has those. This weekend we had a few of them. First, Saturday. It's the day we run around and get the groceries, the laundry done (thanks Jack for that!) and any projects we might have on the calendar. Well, we did get the main things accomplished and then we decided, after some deliberation, to make a run for a new log splitter. When we got back I said I really needed to get the lawn mowed. With the warmer weather and not a ton of rain it's been almost 2 weeks since that was needed. I hop on the rider, lower the mowing thingie, and make a move forward. Then bam...I notice the front tire is flat. OK, off the mower and on to Jack removing the tire and me running to Walmart for the repair. Now there's an hour and a half I can never get back! Ha! It's always interesting to people watch at that place but I didn't really think I'd be there that long. Game changer. I got home and made the decision to try and beat the sunset. I love Fall, but the early darkness is the one thing I'm not fond of. Well, I got the lawn mowed, but I didn't have the light to get all the trimming done. Just a mini game changer I guess! So on to today. I'm getting ready for church and Jack says: "I think I heard your phone go off". (Why is it when calls come in on the land line, the phone "rings", but when they come in on the cell, it "goes off"?) Anyway, I checked my phone and realized my sound was turned off...and who in the heck would be calling me on a Sunday morning anyway? The hospital. I looked at the number and had to make a decision. I was not on call. I was on call the last 2 Sundays. I was not on call today. What do they want? I could ignore it, and just keep getting ready for church. I could call them back and tell them I was not available today. I decided to call them back, find out what they needed. Could I come in and help with a surgery? Deep breath. Ok, I'll come in. Game changer. So I again missed church and teaching my kiddos but I know the team on call was happy to have a second pair of hands. Sometimes we have to do what's right and not always what we want. Anyway, it's the start of a new week tomorrow. It's Ashland's County fair week. Looks like warm and sunny weather for the event. I've been hoping for some cool, Fall temps but it looks like Summer is going to hold a bit longer. Fall does officially arrive in another week so I should quit complaining about the heat. Its good that you are adaptable and easy to go with the game changers. This was definitely the weekend where patience and understanding would come into focus with all the different game changers you were faced with!

<< Sometimes we have to do what's right and not always what we want. >> So very true! I can relate to your stories because Mrs. Shady and I have had many game changer days, especially recently. Saturday a week ago we were hoping to relax and get some rest when her brother called and told us the moving men we hired to help him and his family transfer their possessions to a new residence never showed up. We dropped what we were doing (or not doing), drove across the state and helped them move all day and well into the night, sweltering in 90+ degree heat and getting bit by mosquitoes after dark. It was hard work but we got it done. When you agreed to set aside your plans for church and respond to the call for help at the hospital, you showed what you're made of. Choices of the kind you made build character and reveal who you are. You are YaYa and that means a lot to a lot of people.
The York Interstate Fair has finished its two week run, I believe, and I was told the weather was better for the exposition this year (in terms of less rain) than most other years. I hope it cools down and stays dry for the Ashland County Fair. If you go, please bring home a wiener on a stick for Arnie. You're right. It won't be long before the weather takes a turn and the snow starts flying. Enjoy summer while you still can.

I get those days often also and it's annoying. You are lucky to have a sit on lawnmower. I want to buy a small sit on lawnmower that will get through the narrow path by the Lilly garden. The large one is too wide. The lawn needs to be cut again.
We have had a lot of rain and the grass is growing so fast, unlike in recent years, our lawn was always brown at the end of August but this year, it stayed green all summer.
I'm not fond of colder weather either. The trees are already changing colors and someone told me that they had frost the other morning. They live at a higher elevation than us.

Oh yes, life is full of those Game changers. BUT imma thinking you had a few weeks worth in one day! LOL I am sure your work is very rewarding. But also it is nice that someone knows they can count on you in a pinch. Every occupation and business NEEDS that dependable person..... They are lucky.

It was good of you to go in to help out. It is hard to give up your weekends somehow they feel so special to me even though we don't do much.
I hate the early dark too. I do not mind the cold so much I do the darkness

How wonderful of you to go in to help with the surgery. And you are so right...sometimes we need to do what's right even when we don't want to:) Life is filled with GAME CHANGERS! I have sure had some of those lately. In fact, I haven't blogged lately due to so much going on around me, some of which has definitely NOT been good. I'm not really great at "rolling with the punches" of life, but thankfully my hubby is and so gets me through!!! Even though FALL is only a week away, I have a feeling we aren't going to feel it for awhile yet. It is still sooooo dreadfully HOT here! I do love FALL and sure will be glad when I can finally pull out the long sleeves and boots:)
