A Fashion Mindset

Friday night I attended an event that our Granddaughter Summer was involved in with Ashland University.  She'll graduate May 4th with a BS in fashion merchandising and marketing.  She's work very hard in her college life working full-time and getting her degree in 3yrs.  She's paid for her college herself along with earning scholarships.  As a final event she had to design and put together 2 outfits.  She's not a sewing gal but has learned along the way and with the help of her other Grandma, Kaye, and Gayle, a good friend of ours, she made it.  The theme of the fashion show was "Nature's Palette".
She picked mountains and waterfalls as her design choice.  It wasn't your usual fashion show but it was fun to see all the ways the designers thought of to go with nature...snowfall, clouds, ice, etc.  Here are her models:
The man's outfit gave her fits as there were no pants included in the pattern so she had to use a woman's pant pattern.  Well, the problem was the crotch area...as her model said: "Summer, I'm not a girl and I'm black"...(come to your own conclusion there folks!)  Well, they came off good and we had a fun time.
Donna joined us as my guest along with Lexi:
Jack didn't go.  He said he'd rather get poked in the eye with a stick than attend a fashion show.  Her other Grandpa came but I could tell by the look on his face that this wasn't his idea of fun either!
The venue was wonderful...Bella Bleu's is the name of the place and I managed to get a nice sunset shot.  The food was really good too.  She also invited 4 buyers from Joanne's Fabric to come and they all attended and told Summer she could use them as reference for an interview with the company.   Way to go Summie! You are a super hero in my book. Looking forward to graduation day!  Just as a quick weather note here: Today we've had torrential rain, sun, 70de, thunderstorms, tornado warnings with the tornado siren going off as I'm typing this...and tonight it's suppose to snow.  Geez Mother Nature...this was not in the fashion show! Bye all!

Sounds like a fun event. Congratulations to your granddaughter. She sounds serious like my daughters, putting themselves through University with Dr's degree debt free without our help. I can tell you are so proud of your granddaughter.
I think the male model was brave. lol... I hope the weather isn't too severe. It's started raining here too this evening.
Nice to see a glimpse of Donna at the fashion show.
Hugs, Julia

Hi, YaYa!

Hooray for Summer! (Not the season, your grandkiddo!) She's off and running and you can be very proud of her and her achievements. I don't know of many young people her age who are as serious minded, have applied themselves, worked so hard and taken on so much responsibility. I applaud her. It's a good thing there wasn't a wardrobe malfunction involving that young man wearing a pant pattern designed for women. :) I am delighted to see good closeup pictures of my old friend Donna and of grandkiddo Lexi who attended the fashion show to demonstrate support for the graduate.

Your camera caught perfectly the serenity of the sunset through the trees and the reflection in the lake. I hope your weather has settled down by now. Seems fickle Mother Nature uses the entire spring season to remind you who's the boss. If it snows, please be careful on the roadways and walkways.

Have a wonderful week, dear friend YaYa!

Congratulations Summer! I’m impressed with her fashions. Nice work. She’s going to go far in life. She’s a go-getter. Your weather was a little of everything all in one day. But a beautiful sunset to end the day.

Way to go Summer! She did a great job! And kudos for her to finishing in 3 years instead of 4! I'm sure she will have a successful career ahead of her!

It did look like a beautiful setting to hold such an event too!

Be safe with the weather. I did hear your part of the country is being affected by a lot of not so good weather.

Congrats to your granddaughter...how exciting for her and all of you! Looks like she did a great job. And that comment by her guy friend...hysterical:) Sounds like you wrote this in the midst of some very bad weather; sure hope things have cleared up by now. We had some storms near us but we only had a tiny bit of rain and some wind. A second round is supposed to come through later in the week so I'm sure hoping & praying that we will again be passed cause I sure don't like bad weather!!!!
