A Little This And That

This has been one week since the last time I blogged, and that's because it's just been a busy, not so exciting, didn't do anything blog worthy week.  Usually January is a bit slow in surgery because everyone is dealing with deductibles and having to shell out those first payments.  However, we seem to busy. Especially the call part of the job.  The anesthetic machine in the OB department's operating room wasn't working and had to be sent out for repair.  The c-sections have to be done in our operating rooms which means we have to do them.  It wouldn't be so bad but as many folks know babies just like to born whenever and usually that means middle of the night.  Thursday was not a pretty weather day.  Cold, snow, icy conditions on the road.  Of course that was my call night.  Got through it and even worked Friday with only 4hrs of sleep. I'm getting too old for this stuff!  The bitter cold hit our area but I think it's been that way across the country and down south too.  Jack's been keeping the wood burner going and the house has stayed warm.  However, he threw his back out cutting and splitting wood.  Ironic for a Chiropractor and totally not fun.  He soldiered threw it and Jordan came over on Saturday and helped get the wood in and split for us.  Thanks so much Jord!! I made him some chocolate chip cookies and he did his laundry here while he worked...so it was a small win-win for him I guess!  So "that's" the skinny on "this" past week.  A warm up is in the forecast for next week and hopefully all those having bad weather issues will also get cleared up.  Since it was a good weekend to make soup I tried a new recipe.
Meatball, tortellini soup.  I also put some orzo in it and then garnished it with parsley and Parmesan cheese.

This is a recipe I'll make again.
Good night!

Hi, YaYa!

Yessum, we had a drastic cool down here in Florida the last couple of days. Last night the temp bottomed out at 37 and it is very cold again tonight. We are running the heat instead of the air conditioner for a change. I know you guys must be experiencing brutal cold up there. May I assume that you didn't gather the grandkiddos, bore a hole in the swimming pool ice and stage a Polar Bear Club challenge? :)

I'm sorry you were on call when the roads were treacherous and very sorry you needed to run back in to work on only four hours of sleep. That must have been a tough day. I'm also sorry to learn that Jack hurt his back splitting logs. It was nice of Jord to come to the rescue. I only wish Eddy the wonder dog could have been there to help, too.

I just read your soup recipe aloud to Mrs. Shady. She loves to make soup and will remember your concoction and hopefully make it for our dinner one of these chilly winter days.

I wish Jack a speedy recovery and I wish both of you a safe and happy week ahead, dear friend YaYa!

Such a pretty sky and yum on the soup! My very favorite reports to type are of babies being born, either by C-sections or natural deliveries. They come when they want to come, but they are always welcome, no matter what time of the day it might be.

Do stay warm!

That soup looks a real winter warmer. Tim's best buy this winter has been an electric log splitter - we'll still need my son-in-law to help split the biggest logs with an axe, but it takes care of most of them and has been brilliant, and very easy on the back.

I hope Jack takes his own advice and heals quickly. That pot of soup looks delicious. It's been cold here too and i had to warm my feet in a bucket of hot water at the barn this morning. It was that cole.-21°C. or --5.8°F.

I made some squash soup and it was wonderful for this time of year. I'm having some for lunch again.
Stay warm and safe.
HUgs,
Julia

Oh my goodness. I want to make that soup....like tonight! Yes, it's even been "cold" here in the south. We have had snow on the ground since Friday which is unheard of, but we're loving it. We have the heater, space heater and fireplace going.

A nice soup with a gorgeous sunset! Now, if you could only visit your brother in Georgia and come and see me too, life would be perfect! x

Yummy looking soup! Sorry to hear about your hubby's back, but yay for the help he received. I had two C-sections....I always thought it would be interesting to see. I didn't see either one of mine. I probably would have passed out. Ha!

Jilda makes a soup like that and I love it. I'm not sure how equipment knows when we are on call, but I swear it did the same thing when had on call duty.

Cold, snow, icy conditions on the road - I think that is the condition everywhere.

I wonder why I always feel hungry after reading your blog. :-)

Your life sounds busy, and cold, but also really interesting and satisfying. We're having one of the coldest winters in memory, and snowiest. I left North Idaho to get away from this. It's beautiful but because we're not prepared to deal with it in the Pacific Northwest, everything pretty much comes to a standstill. Snow days as a retired person are a double treat!
