My blog title refers to my Mom and me. I did make the trip out to Chicago and Mom came home from the hospital on Thursday night last week. Friday morning my sister and I took her to have a follow-up EKG.
Mom sat and waited about 45min. and was getting pretty tired. She looked good considering all she'd been through in the previous days. Blood clots in both lungs and her heart. It's amazing she's still with us. At 90 she deserves a medal!
My great-niece, Ella, sure loves her Great Grandma. She was really happy to be able to be with her at home. Although she did make many visits to the hospital and cried when she had to leave and Grandma had to stay! Midge has done a great job of making sure Mom has all her meds and takes them correctly. We took blood pressures all through the day and visiting nurses and physical therapy folks made their visits too. Mom is improving daily and I'm so thankful for all the prayers and good wishes from blog friends and many others! While we were there my brother Greg came up from Georgia to visit his family and also Mom. This was planned long before her hospital stay and it worked out good that she was home and able to enjoy seeing him and my sister-in-law. We had a wonderful visit. Mom brought out some photo albums and we had a walk back in time. I found this pic of Mom from 1944. She was quite the babe!
Midge and I decided we would make a Thanksgiving type dinner on Sunday. So we roasted a lovely turkey!
I told her this reminded me of a turkey we did together many, many years ago. I even had a pic from that day...of course I did! She didn't remember it so I found it and sent it to her.
We laughed at the clothes...her top was quite the design and my plaid suspenders were obviously just the thing in the day! Ha! The only thing worse was the wallpaper behind us! However, the turkey looked just as good as the one we did on Sunday!
The table was set in a very Fallish way. Midge is very talented at many things and centerpieces rank right up there. She made me a special one to take home for the Halloween party we're having in a few weeks.

Well, Mom is getting back into her routines...like reading! It was sad to have to leave. Good-byes are not fun and I wish we lived a bit closer. We'll be back for Christmas and hopefully she'll be even better. When I got home I found out we had no surgeries today and only the call team would have to work if needed. So I took advantage of the extra day to play catch up...grocery shopping, lawn mowing, pool closing and of course a walk with dear Chubbs who was happy to have me back!
The trees are starting to turn and it was a lovely, cool morning for a walk in the cemetery.
It was very quiet and leaves would softly fall as Chubbs and I wandered the paths. There's a church nearby that chimes on the hour. It also plays hymns at 5pm everyday. It's lovely to listen to but as it chimes out the hour I think that those in their eternal rest really don't care what time it is, do they? All I know is, time goes way too fast. Lives go by in heartbeat. Many say that my Mom has led a good full life. 90 is a long life but really, is it ever long enough? Do we get to really do all we wish in our lifetime? So all we can do is spend what days we have wisely. Those chimes reminded me of that.

Welcome back home to Ohio, Ashland, dear friend! :) I hope you remember your grandkiddo saying "Oregon, Portland" all those years ago so that you don't think I'm blogging under the influence. :)
Before I write about your mother I want to compliment you on your fall/Halloweeny header. It's a delight!
I am very relieved to know that your mother is recovering from her recent medical challenges. She has a lot of people rooting and praying for her including me. She always looks to be in tip top shape when you post pictures of her on your blog. I admire her determination to go on with her life. Please keep in mind that age is relative. I just saw a video news report about a 102 year old woman and she didn't look or act a day over 80. Then there is 104 year old Margaret Schneider, "The Oldest Living Dell Rat," who is still with us, still watching game shows on TV, reading the paper, clipping store coupons and scratching off lottery tickets as part of her daily routine. I pray that your mother enjoys many more happy years surrounded by her lovely family.
It was nice to see sweet Ella again and the picture of her cuddling with your mother brought tears to my eyes. I am always happy to see vintage photos of your family especially when they include you. If there is any leftover turkey in the back of the fridge from that 1973 feast, please ship it down to me. :) The autumnal table setting is beautiful as are the turning leaves at the cemetery. I know that your faithful dog Chubbs was happy to see (and smell) you when you got home.

I am glad to hear your mom is out of the hospital; I hope her recovery continues to go well and her strength returns. I think we will wish for more time on this earth, even if we lived to be 100 plus years, but then I also remember what lies beyond and that is for eternity.....which is a really long time in an awesome place......and then I wonder why we cling to this side of it so much?
Glad you had a nice visit with your mom and family too and I love the idea of making a turkey to enjoy together :)

I am so happy to hear your mom is home and doing better. you are right how long is long enough. I have an aunt that is 92 and does so great! we are so close and it will never be long enough with her.
we are in the fall weather here too which I love I could live in fall weather all year around.

I'm so glad that you have your mom back home and getting back to her routine. She a tough girl but I hope your turkey was tender for the occasion. I've been busy trying to get my garden fall ready but there's always so much to do. I've been thinking of perhaps returning to occasional blog posting of Petals and Wool but I still find myself over burden with work at the moment.

I've been checking your blog everyday waiting for an update on your Mom. So thankful she is home and doing so much better. What a special way to celebrate before you went back home with a turkey and a sorta Thanksgiving. You all had someone to be very thankful for. Sweet Chubbs was probably glad to get back to normal too. Can't wait to see your Halloween party post.
