Frozen..And I Don't Mean The Movie

A no pic post...an usual occurrence at the Pines!  Frankly, how to you photograph cold?  I can tell you it's super freezing here. Yesterday the wind chills made it about 30 below zero.  This morning it was 13 below...getting warmer? I'm looking forward to tomorrow's temps...it's actually going to be 20de! Flip flops here we come! (just kidding)  I give super hero awards to all police, fire, city workers, and anyone who has to work outdoors.  I give hero awards to our surgical department workers.  Those who made it to work on time..those who had to fight with the airlines to get home from a Christmas vacation...those who have a long drive to get to Ashland...and a special award to hubbies who drive and drop off their wives at the door so me they don't have to walk the 1/4mi from the parking lot to the hospital and freeze to death!  Jack closed down early yesterday and today after many cancellations because of the weather.  Our surgical patients, however, made it in.  With a  few exceptions.  Any cancellations we had were due to issues other than the weather.  Hopefully all will be better as the week goes on.  I had to post about these temps because I use this blog as a journal. It hasn't been this cold in 100 years.  I'm thinking I probably won't be here in another 100yrs so maybe who ever gets this blog book in the will is going to love reading about the "BIG FREEZE" of 2014.  The usual good-byes in this weather are as follows:  Stay safe, stay warm..I've heard it and read it many times since most of my blog buddies live where it's cold..or they live south and are having a very unusual cold spell.  Then there's Australia where they are having a crazy heat wave....Mother Nature, you are such a kidder!  Stay safe, stay warm everyone....

Your surgical patients are real troopers I'd say , as are you of course . If I were going into surgery I'd want you for my nurse :)

20 degrees tomorrow, YaYa? Better get that swimming pool of yours filled for the kiddos! :)

I realize this brutal cold wave is no laughing matter. The cold has a way of bringing many aspects of life to a standstill and I have been thinking about you and all my other friends up north. York, PA was 3 degrees at 10 this morning with a wind chill of -15 but that's mild compared to some of your recent readings. It does indeed become a matter of life and death to venture outdoors for any length of time. I'm wondering how you got Eddy outside to do what he needs to do. Did you have to knock icicles off of him afterward? :)

Let's hope that's the last historic cold snap you will have to endure this winter. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

A friend and I were just discussing how Mother Nature and Old Man Winter must be having a domestic dispute and messing with the weather. Personally, I think she's been stepping out with Jack Frost ;)

It has been very cold here too.
I am over it but since I am not mother nature I will have to put up with it.

oh that Mother Nature, she's a wild one. Remember the commercials "you can't fool mother nature." Hope you and the rest of the country get a break from this icy grip. I heard today that every single state had temps below freezing last night. Crazy. It's cold here to but I am keeping my mouth shut!

Hi, from the heat wave in Australia. It rained yesterday, so it's cooler now. Today, we wandered around the Eumundi markets. It's brilliant - full of home-made scented candles and pottery stuff. Then it was back to the beach. Hope your weather warms soon. We have friends who are visiting Washington, and they are posting some amazing photos of snow and ice.

Yep, we're getting it here, too! This mom has spent 18 days with the kids on extended Christmas break, including another snow/freezing cold day tomorrow here in a Michigan! We must keep our sense of humor and hope you stay warm and safe!

A topsy-turvy world.
Here, in the central Russia we have only fog and puddles.
No frost, no sun, no snow.
I have never seen such winter in my place.
Ya-ya, I wish you warm weather and I wish us frost and snow.
Let us exchange ))

been catching up...yeah, we've been hearing a lot about you poor northerners suffering through the temps...we get a little tailwind of cold from the vortex here in Florida but now we're back up to our 70s tomorrow :)
Stay warm. If you can!

I think all of you are very brave and stoic to be able to handle this frigid weather. Here in North Texas, 12 (wind chill 0) was very hard to handle with no snow or ice. My hat is off to all of you.
I also applaud your faithfulness to journal. It has been too long since I sat down to read or post anything.
Prayers for everybody in this cold bitter weather.

It's been so cold here, I've actually experienced frost bit for the first time in my life, and my ear was only exposed for a few minutes. All the skin came off today, and it is just raw and itchy now. Yucky.
I'm up in Saskatchewan, Canada, and we are also having a record cold year.
Scrolling through your blog and loved your photos. Nice to meet you and I look forward to more.

In California we pretty much take our weather for granted. If it gets in the 40's we shiver and make comments how cool it's gotten. The news is full of stories about the cold. I think it was Blondie's Journal (Jane) that showed a picture of a frozen lake Michigan. Which was on the news as well.
I hope it warms up for everyone soon! It has to be miserable. So many flights cancelled. Brave folks out there trying to keep their lives going.
Thanks so much for stopping by. I've been doing very little posting..
Take good care, dear friend!
Love,
Mona

I am so impressed in a really horribly terrified way of your temperatures! We went to a historical -9 with wind chill and I was appalled!

This hot house magnolia from NOLA does not do well in bitter cold. I'm just so thankful we beat the arctic blast by one day and were safe in the warmth of our home instead of wading our way through the luggage in the airports this weekend. I mean we were in airports a good bit of the weekend but did manage to get to our destination and back even when it took 2 days to get there and only 2 delays to get home on Sunday!
Hope you are thawing out now…you are a real trooper and an amazing person in my book.
Big Warm Hug…xoxox
