Cheerio!

Yes, I was feeling a bit British today after watching the season finale of Downton Abbey last evening....I won't go into the gory details but it was a heart stopper and required a stiff upper lip to get through it.  I so wanted a scone afterwards.  I'm  really looking forward to season four.  That's saying alot because season four will air next Winter and we're not even done with this Winter yet...thinking about another Winter is making me sadder than season three.  To make me feel so much more jolly,  Jack and I watched another hilarious episode of this other British show:  Miranda
Just looking at her face makes me laugh, but her show really is a knee slapper!  But I knew I must return to my roots and get over this obsession with these TV shows from across the pond.  After dinner tonight I had a desire to make some Greek yumminess.   My favorite Greek pastry is Galaboboureko...Now that's a mouth full!  It's a custard pastry and even though I enjoy making Baklava, it's not my favorite.  This pastry just reminds me of my Mom, home and comfort.
It's made with Phyllo dough like Baklava, but the filling is made with eggs, sugar, milk, vanilla, butter, and an ingredient that always surprises people.  Farina....or maybe you call it "Cream of Wheat" cereal.
Oh my...I wish you could take a bite of this warm, syrupy, creamy goodness!  I'm taking it to work tomorrow since I don't want it hanging around my house tempting me!  You're welcome to join us there and give me your opinion....this pastry or Baklava? I make it..you decide.  On a final note...my roots are also connected to my Dad's side.  He was German and today he would have been 93...he passed away in 1976 at age 56 and I miss him everyday.  Happy Birthday Dad!  I may like Greek food better than saurerkraut, but I love you  more than anything!

I watched one, one, episode of DA a few weeks ago while rocking my grandbaby boy and I wanted to see more. That was the week Lady Sybil died. Now I've heard what happened last night and I'm not so sure I could handle this series. Should I go back and see it all from the beginning???
Happy Birthday in Heaven to you daddy.

Sad that your Dad died so young and that you had so little time with him.
That Galaboboureko (never heard of it before) looks yummy.
While you were watching Miranda we were watching an old series of Cheers so it was a fair swap.

I must be the only person in the world not watching Downton Abbey :). I've never been a huge fan of baclava -- this other thing looks delicious, though!

I like baklava but I'm pretty sure I'd like the new dessert better as I'm a huge fan of custard or anything that resembles it. Yum. Looks so good.
I'm cutting down on gluten, sort of, not doing a great job - due to stomach issues.
As for Downton Abbey, I am a fan. My hubs not so much but he tolerates as I watch. Sad ending but of course now we have to tune in next year. Way too long to wait for the continuation.
I'll have to look for Miranda, that's a new one.
On the subject of dad's, I lost mine when I was two. He was 47. Very sad. We need our dads at least part of our lives.
Blessings to you and yours.

Ooh your greek dish looks so good. Is it hard to make??
Downton was such a downer this week. Yet I still can't wait for Season 4!

I've never watched Downton Abbey. and it was only when watching the Emmys that I even realized that it wasn't "DowntoWn Abbey. I think once we find and settle in our new place, I'll have to get Netflix! Now if only someone would bake me those delicious looking goodies. YUM!

Unfortunately, I'm still in Season 2 and yesterday I read on another blog about the finale of Season 3 and I'm DEVASTATED! Hopefully, the writers will come up with something to cheer us all up for Season 4. I can't believe how long the wait is!
Your dessert sounded so good! I used to work with an Indian lady who made an Indian sweet using Cream of Wheat and it was delicious so I'm sure yours is too. I'd love to try it sometime.

Hmmm... tempting to stop over for a taste of that dessert. It's probably all gone by now though. :) We have been watching DA too, but opted for a new episode of The Good Wife last night. We've only been watching this season, so we need to get to Netflix and do some catch up work. I caught Miranda last week and it was hysterical!

Boy, does that ever look delicious! And happy birthday to your dad!!

=)

PS. I have friends who are literally enraged over the last episode of Downtown Abbey. I was just going to start watching the series on Netflix, but now I'm not so sure. Sounds like a lot of tragedy went down.

Well I could use some cheering up as I've been down in the dump for most of February but that desert is calling my name. it looks so tempting especially to a diabetic.... I love, love Greek food, especially when I can't pronounce the name, lol... I actually make spanakopita especially when I have lots of fresh spinach in the garden.

My friends was married to a Greek and she made some awesome dishes. Also every time they went to Montreal they would bring me tons of all kind of sinful deserts.

I'm one of the very few who didn't watched DA so I can't comment on it.

My, your dad was a handsome guy and it's so sad that you lost him so young. Happy Birthday to him in heaven.

Take care and hug Donna for me. I hope that she is healing from that series of mishaps, the poor girl.

HUGS,
JB

Hmmmm. That dessert looks so yummy and me thinks it is our favorite dessert when we go to our favorite Greek restaurant. We just never knew the name of it. My DH and I are very addicted to DA and also can't wait for season 4. Your co-workers are very lucky to have you baking and bringing such goodies to work.

Jilda and I love the Brits. One of my favorites is The Vicar. Sadly, we lost funding and we no longer get the shows on Saturday evening :-)
Great photo of your dad.
My mom died a year ago tomorrow.

Wow! What a good looking dad you had. Yes, he certainly was too young to die. My dad died when I was 10, he was 63, still too young to die, but to me he seemed really old. He used to rock on our old rocking chair and sing old Swedish songs to me. He didn't think I was too old to rock. He also used to tell me stories about when he was young..the only one I can remember was about how he used to ice skate on the lake when it froze. How I wish I had that old rocker. I don't know where the heck it went.

I almost hate to ask you, but would you send me the recipe for that yummy sounding dessert? Then I will give you my honest opinion. All I know is that I love Baklava. I've had a recipe for that for quite a few years. I wonder if yours is similar. I got the recipe when I was a Relief Society teacher(Social Relations) years ago when our lessons were on foreign countries. I used to make a dish from each country for everyone to taste. I was a very popular teacher and I always wondered whether the reason I had such a large turnout was because I gave such great lessons, or was it the food......hummm, yes I wonder.

I wish we could have started watching Downton Abbey when it first started. We heard it was such a great show, so we tuned in, but we didn't know anything about it and we just couldn't get all the characters figured out so we stopped. That was some time ago last year. Maybe the episode we watched wasn't one of the best ones. I suppose we could get copies of all the old ones but I just can't imagine watching three years worth all at once. I guess we could spread it out. I'll have to talk to Dick about it.

This is getting too long, as usual. Sorry...........

When I went to click on "Publish Your Comment" my comment didn't go away from this space, so I clicked two more times in the blank space where "Publish..." even though the sign for it didn't show up. Of course it then printed three times. Sorry (seems like all I do is apologize). Hope this all makes sense to you

British is about all I watch and enjoy anymore. At least it's not so mindless and offensive and so much of American TV. Do I sound negative?!
