Chili Nite..Inside And Out

Every February we have our annual "Cheap Good Night Out and Chili Cook Off" at the Church. Anyone who wants to enter their chili recipes just brings it in and they're judged in different categories. The judges don't know who made the entries because the pots just have numbers on them and all the judges have to do it taste and decide.
There's other food too....it was all very good!
Hey, here's two hungry folks who look a little familiar:
After dinner our emcee, Greg announced the winners.
Catergories were: Hottest..won by Rachael!
Sweetest? Yep, sweetest won by Steve whose wife in the green sweater seems more than a little excited!
Derrick wins this catergory every year..what is it? Most unusual...this year his entry looked like creek water and it had a lobster claw floating in the middle. I kid you not. I guess congrats are in order....I did not taste it and I didn't ask for his recipe...sorry Derrick!
The entry everyone wants to win is best tasting..well, duh! If it doesn't taste great, what's the point? Who won that? DRUM ROLL PLEASE: DRRRRRRRR....That would be ME! Yep, I won and I'm humbled and very thankful for judges that have exceptional taste. I say that with all honesty and tongue in cheek!
After dinner and awards comes the skit portion of the "Cheap Nite Out"...The winners are chosen by the loudest applause. This years top winners are the Primary activity girls class. You can't beat a cute face! Plus, that upside down face act just never gets old!
The Cub Scouts got to "spoof" the Branch President.
Even Jack got into the act! He was very funny!
Finally our Missionaries closed out the evening with a duet. These guys have really nice voices.
We've been doing this skit night for over 20 years. It evolved into the chili cook off and it's always been a fun time. So even though it was "chilly" outside, the "chili" inside warmed everyone's stomach and the fellowship and fun warmed everyone's heart.

That just sounds like such a fun evening, Kathy. We have a chili cookoff in our ward too, only it is always on Halloween. The only time Dick entered his chili,he won best tasting.

Since you won first prize in that catagory, you have to know that I want that recipe too! You know me, all you have to do is mention some special food, or show a picture of it, and I'm right there, wanting your recipe. You might wonder why I'm just not satisfied with Dick's recipe. The truth is, he has never made it since and I'm still not sure what he put into it. I am not a chili maker, but I'll bet I would be,if I could just get a good recipe for it.

I love that picture of you and Jack. You are looking so sharp and I love the way your hairdo. You look terrific in bangs, and I'm guessing that is why you wear them. If I do, it makes me look squat.

I can't believe I am the first to comment on your blog tonight.

Hi,Kathy. It's been a while since I've seen you. I am rectifying that!

So glad your chili won. This is indeed one of the favorite social events in our ward also here in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Your ward's most unusual category is REALLY unusual. Creek water and a lobster claw (LOL).

The fellowship is the main thing, and that's very evident here. Your post and pictures warmed my heart on a very gray morning. Thanks!

Yikes, I hope gas-x was supplied with all that chili and chili eaters all in one room! And congratulations on your win! The upside down face photo is too cute.

Cub scouts are really cute. I think it si good to let those little ones be occupied with good stuff.

That Chili Night sounds like a hoot. I bet it was lots of fun. Congratulations on taking home the top prize. I bet they all wanted the recipe.

I make Chili and I never follow any recipe and it taste pretty well the same. I like hot Chili but I don't care for sweet Chili.

You and Jack are a good looking couple. JB

Well, congratulations! I'd sure like some of that chili about now...even though it is late. Maybe it would warm me up. After weeks of unseasonable warm weather it has decided to get quite cold here...in the mid 20's tonight...with tons of wind all day. We usually have little to do here but tonight had 3 different places to be. Would have preferred to stay home in front of the fire. Sounds like your church is filled with lots of friendly and fun folks. Glad you had so much fun!

Kota had a good time too! We watched our boys lose their opportunity at WCAL champs on Friday by 5 points I think. Bummer. I'm glad basketball is coming to a close.

You might not be aware, but a few years ago I won "The Most Interesting Chili" award at the local cook off.
I think it might have been a "mercy award" but I'm proud of it all the same.
That sounds like a great evening.

Well congrats, Kathy! You'll have to share that recipe with us. I haven't yet found a perfect chili recipe and am always tinkering with the ones I have. What a fun idea your ward has in doing this.

This sounds like Mr. A's dream night out. A chili cook-off is right up his alley -- mainly because he can eat chili all night long and not be judged for it.
