This is wood..I'm sure you guessed that! We heat with it all winter. Sometimes we have to start in October, but this year it was warm until last week and now we're staying in the 20's and 30's...
It goes in here...our wood burning furnace that has a blower that we don't always have to use because this box of heat keeps the house (even the upper level) pretty warm...and since I don't usually have the task of keeping the "home fires burning" I can't explain any more detailed than that. That's Jack's job and he does it great..except when he's winter camping like he did last night!
I do know that once it's done burning it creates a ton of this!
It's hard to regulate the house temp when you heat like this...sometimes it gets too warm and we actually open the windows! But when it's a sustainable cold like we're having now it keeps it comfy and cozy...my electric bill is happy..when the bills are happy, Momma is happy!

I am seriously jealous of that wood stove...would LOVE to be opening windows in the winter...it's so drafty in our house sometimes. How nice to have a low fuel bill, especially around Christmas!!!
Kyle took our wood burner out so that we could have a bigger kitchen table. I really miss grading papers and working on church stuff by the warm stove. Maybe I'll just have to come and sit by yours.
Wow, you guys are doing it up old-style. Pretty neat!
Seems all the more Christmasy, somehow.
=)
Here in the deep south I don't think many folks use these. We do have a fireplace that we fire up when it gets really cold. I absolutely love sitting by the open flames with a good cup of coffee or hot cocoa, a good book or movie, and my warm fuzzy pj's! It's just now beginning to get cold here but I'm sure we'll still have some warm days off and on. I've heard we won't have a cold winter this year. Even when we do it usually doesn't last very long. Then before we know it we're faced with the almost unbearable heat and the gnats!
I had my wood fire removed for a number of reasons and I do miss it's life. I could sit and watch a fire for hours! Love the winter header photo. Life is so busy I can't keep up with my reading lately. Have a happy, snuggly winter!

We used to have a wood heater and when the electricity and gas bills come in I sometimes wish we had one again... then I remember all the cleaning!!!!
We have a fireplace in our home, and in the 10 years we have been here we have lit it three times, it is really seldom cold enough, but I can feel the warmth of your home, and I know it is not only from the fire, but from the love that radiates from you and Jack which is felt by all who have the pleasure of knowing you
I love your post. thank you for sharing the bit about your alternative heating. I love wood stoves too! And the money you save on your power bill is worth it.
Congrats! You won my giveaway, so come on over and choose which of the three prizes you'd like me to send you. Of course, I'll need your mailing address, too, so please click on my profile and email me.

Is ash like that good for compost?
When I replied to your email, it came back to me, but I just wanted to let you know that the lovely pewter earrings will be on their way to you tomorrow!

Really? I didn't know that people still heat their house like that! That's really cool! (or should I say warm haha) How old is your house?
Wow I could sure use one of those in this ole house.
I bet your heating bill is a lot cheaper.
Every month during the winter I dread my bill.
Hope your doing well.
Love ya
Maggie
Yaya I just awarded you the L'Aussie Fair Dinkum' award for your lovely blog and for fathfully visiting mine. Your support is much appreciated!
We had a big old wood furnace outside that pumped heat (and smoke) into the house. The dang thing ate wood like a hungry dragon. After years of this we pulled it out and rely on our propane furnace and the big old fireplace in my family room.
I get the wood in and clean out the ashes. It's great exercise...in fact today my arms are sore from doin' wood curls. Yep, ya heard me right. I make a game outta all my chores. A chick's gotta do what a chick's gotta do!!! Heeehehehe!!!
God bless ya and keep warm and fuzzy girl! :o)
Hi Yaya. I'm here from Cheryl's blog and so glad to find you. I grew up with wood heat and love the feel of a fire in a fireplace, but am grateful for our heat pump and the ease of that. Although if my husband were willing to keep the home fires burning in a literal way, I wouldn't mind living with the unique warmth of wood heat. I'll be back for more.
