Untitled

I wasn't sure how to title this last post of September. So untitled it is!  It was a mixed bag of emotions this weekend.  It started out just great.  Again, beautiful weather.  Sunny and a bit warmer than I really like it but it's cool at night and that's a blessing. Last week we did get some rain finally, but we sure could use more.  I guess I'm never really satisfied! Saturday we went down to Malabar Farm state park for the first festival of this fall season.  A friend from Church came with us.  She's new to Ashland and hadn't been here before. There weren't as many vendors as in the past, but it was still nice to walk around and see what folks were selling and also enjoy the reenactments going on.

The civil war group getting ready to shoot the cannons.  This is the reason we don't take Annabelle with us.  Those guns would have her in therapy for sure!

The French and Indian war was also represented.  The setups are always fun to see and the folks doing the reenactments take it pretty seriously.  We walked around, took a horse drawn wagon ride to different parts of the area and I think our friend enjoyed it too.   Later in the day it was time for pictures for Ashland High School's homecoming.
My Granddaughter, Addy, with her boyfriend, Gage. Thankfully it was a lovely warm evening.  I'm not sure I'll get used to those short, short dresses. I'd hate for anyone to freeze! But hey, I think my generation helped invent the mini skirt, so I'd better not comment!  Then Sunday morning as I was getting ready for Church, I heard that the President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints passed away   Those that have followed me for years know that I'm a member of this church that many call The Mormon Church.  President Russell M. Nelson was 101!  He was very vibrant, active man until the end of his life and we sure enjoyed him as he took the church in different directions that focused on Jesus Christ, Temple worship, and family.  He was also a world-renowned heart surgeon who helped invent the heart lung machine that saves so many lives.  It was just after our church service was over that we heard about the horrific act of violence in Grand Blanc, Michigan at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  4 have died and many injured as a man rammed his truck into the church, open fire with an automatic weapon on the innocent people inside and also set fire to the church and it burned to the ground.  They fear more victims will be found once they can get through the burned remains of the church.  All these shootings can make us numb to this hateful violence but this sure hit close to home knowing how many feel about our religion and the fact it could easily happen here.  Prayers are needed for those families that are hurting from this and more compassion for everyone no matter their race, religion, or political stance. I guess I could have titled this post, "What the world needs now is love, sweet love"...lets help spread that!  My favorite month is just a day away.  I sure hope October can be a good one for everyone.

Your granddaughter is beautiful and no, we can't say a thing about short skirts. Back in the day, our skirts were very short!
That was such a terrible, terrible thing to happen at that church in Michigan. It seems to me that there is so much anger in our country just now. Love, sweet love is certainly needed. Take care, my friend, and hope you have an outstanding October! (Someone wished that for me and I am totally stealing it. LOL.)

Hi, YaYa!

I visit you as you are mourning the loss of your LDS church President and reeling from the violence at the church in Michigan, just one of several mass shootings that have taken place in various locations over the last few days. Seems the best we can hope for in today's America is to offset the terror and misery generated in the news by gleaning a little joy wherever and whenever we can through fun activities like the fall festival you attended at Malabar Farm state park. Mrs. Shady, a Civil War buff, would have enjoyed that reenactment and the one representing the French and Indian war.

My old friend Addy Rae Rae has blossomed into a strikingly beautiful young woman. I'm sure she was the belle of the ball at the Ashland High homecoming. As it is in your neck of the woods, we have been receiving just enough precip to get by, but we would welcome considerably more. I just checked our 10-day forecast and the only chance of rain is a 40% likelihood a week from Wednesday. Hope that changes. By the way, this Wednesday is the day I officially return to blogging and kick-off Shadyween 2025 at Shady's Place. I invite you to join me if you can. Let's hope October is a much better month than September turned out to be. I wish you a safe week ahead, dear friend YaYa, if not a particularly happy one.

Hi Yaya! Yes, this past Sunday was certainly not a happy one. I am looking forward to the peace that will come from next week's conference addresses. Your granddaughter is beautiful. I hope she had a good time at Homecoming. Let's hope the next week is a good and hopeful one. See you again soon!

Your grand daughter is lovely.
I have had to step back from the news. It rips my heart out.
So sad for those people in the church. Prayers

What a nice picture of your granddaughter and her boyfriend. We did wear short dresses/skirts back in the 70's. I was sad to hear another shooting at a church. No shooting is acceptable. But it just seems worse at a church. I am a city girl, but I do get up to the mountains every few years. I love hearing the wind and it goes through the pines. Sorry for the loss of your church leader. He was very accomplished. I found you from Deb J.

So sad this hatred was close to home. We live about an hour from where the church shooting was. 5 folks confirmed dead now. Just a sad situation when you cannot even go to church. Your granddaughter is just adorable. Yes I wore minis too so I cannot judge her dress. Janice

Funny...I've followed you for several years now and while I know your faith and church are very important to you, I did not realize you are a member of the Mormon church. How tragic that was and it's sad to contemplate how numb our society seems to becoming to episodes like this. Of course I am keeping those affected in my prayers and thoughts. Addy is a beautiful, young, lady.
