I previously posted how we were going to see our son Craig in Chicago this week. However, his company decided to do the meeting via ZOOM instead. I'm glad he didn't have to travel and could be home with his family this week but we were very disappointed not to spend time with him. We'll get together one of these days, hopefully! Craig, when you read this just know we love and miss you! And we don't like your new CEO! Ha! But life goes on and to fill in the week I was asked if I could work. I filled in a few days and will work tomorrow. But I had Wednesday off so we were able to get together with our friends from Church that we meet for lunch every 3 months. John and his wife Chris have a farm and they invited everyone to their place for a picnic. It was the last day of Summer and the temps were in the mid 80's. However, there was a lovely breeze all day and in the shade it was quite comfy...although Jack might argue that point! He prefers cooler temps. So Mother Nature dished some out today on the first day of Fall. Only 60de and down into the 40's tonight. Love it! Really feels like my favorite season. We took Annabelle with us to the picnic since they live 2hrs away and being gone all day and leaving her here alone wasn't going to work. She did great and enjoyed the farm and our friends have 3 huge dogs who were super sweet and everyone got along. Today I had off also so I went to a new place to buy pumpkins and cornstalks. Very reasonable and fun. So here's a few pics to remember to keep on enjoying life even when plans "FALL" through!
Before we started our week we did take time to see our Granddaughter, Lexi, going to homecoming. She went with a group of girlfriends and I'm sure they all had a great time.
Here she is with her favorite date, her Dad! Our son Phil is a great Dad and Lexi is a super cool kiddo! Love that girl!Addy Rae was there too but she wasn't going to homecoming...she's only 13! So grown up looking it's scary! She didn't want to smile because of her braces...silly girl!Over the weekend I also finally painted the retaining wall Jack put up last year. A nice warm and sunny day to do outside painting. After working Monday and Tuesday Jack and I took Wednesday to spend with our friends at their farm.Just a few of the gang having a good laugh!Burgers and hot dogs were cooked over an open fire and we all brought sides and desserts. It was very good and so relaxing to just sit and eat, talk, laugh and enjoy each other's company. Isn't the farm pretty?Lots of cute little places to sit and enjoy the scenery. They have an orchard and a cider press. They even have the original summer kitchen that many farms had back in the day. Their 3 dogs were so nice even though they were a bit bigger than Annabelle. Amos, their Newfie fell in love with her.Annabelle is a hottie but she wasn't too interested in poor drooling Amos! She finally had to turn away and do the old "It's not you, it's me" line. Actually it was really Amos since I think he rolled in something and was a bit....how do I say this...smelly. Oh well. Better luck when we return next year! We bid everyone farewell with the promise to meet in 3 months. It was a great way to bid farewell to Summer also. Today dawned chilly, low humidity, and gorgeous! I took off for the new pumpkin patch that's owned by our former Veterinarian. His parents grow pumpkins and it's a self serve, pay on the honor system, grab your own pumpkins kind of place. The pumpkins are in neat rows by size and price. The most expensive ones were only $5. They also have corn stalks...5 for a dollar. So I grabbed some pumpkins and stalks for me and also for my sister who's coming to the Pines in 2 weeks. I filled my car and headed back to the Pines. After cleaning out the car I again took off to have lunch with Jack and some of his classmates that meet for lunch every month. That was a fun time too! 2 days of good food and good friends. Love it! Jack had to close his office this afternoon because the city was working on the water lines and he didn't have water. Not good for a Drs. office to be without water and a bathroom! So he came home early and I mowed the yard and then we worked on getting 2 rooms emptied out that we're having new carpeting put in on Saturday. So even though we didn't get to do what we originally planned on we did fill it in with lots of "stuff"! So I'll end with the old line of : "Happy Fall, y'all!"

Hi, YaYa!
I was working all evening and not paying attention to my blog roll. I am therefore getting a later than usual start reading and commenting on your new post, an exciting report on the week gone by. My goodness, all week long I've been thinking about you and picturing you in Chicago with Midge, Hope and Craig. I am surprised to learn that none of that happened. How did we ever get along without ZOOM? :) I hope Craig can visit soon and being his family with him. I am also excited to know that Midge is coming to The Pines a couple of weeks from now.
Your Plan B for the week was to fill your days with productive work, travel, friends, food and fun. I admire you for taking extra OR shifts when asked. That farm is indeed beautiful. It's so picturesque it looks like a movie set! I'm glad Annabelle was able to go with you and happy that those big dogs didn't pick on her. You had a beautiful day for that gathering with friends, a wonderful day to say goodbye to the summer of 2022. Right on cue, the temp dropped and it finally feels like fall up there. I'm sure the weather will seesaw for a while before the cold takes hold for good.
I was very happy to see the latest pictures of my friends Lexi and Addy Rae Rae. They are transforming from the little girls we once knew into young women. Addy should not feel embarrassed about wearing braces for a while. When they come off, she'll thank herself that she got them and will be super proud of the way she looks and eager to smile.
I admire the outdoor paint job and I'm excited to know that you are having new carpeting installed soon. I'm glad you raided that pumpkin patch and loaded up with pumpkins and stalks. Let the Halloween preps officially begin!
In football, a "busted play" can sometimes lead to a big gain. When the Chicago trip fell through, you made every minute and every day count, and look at all the fun things you did and all the tasks you accomplished. I'm very happy for you. Have a safe and restful weekend, dear friend YaYa!
Happy fall! Sorry you didn't get to see your son but seems like you filled it full of good things anyway. Our grand has braces and hates to smile with them too.
A good price on the pumpkins not sure I will even get any this year we go to my daughter for Halloween so no trick or treaters here.
Have a wonderful weekend
Cathy
Wow, you are keeping yourself busy with working, painting, traveling, going out to be with friends, and installing carpets. I removed all the carpets and installed hardwood parquet floors and would never go back to carpets. I have a preference for wooden floors and some area rugs for accent.
That farm looks beautiful. I was wondering if there are fish in that big pond.
I no longer like the cold as I age. It slows me down, lol...
I hope you can get some seasoned hardwood for the winter. There seems to be a shortage of it everywhere this year.
Enjoy the weekend.
Hugs,
Julia
Although I am most certain you missed seeing Craig (and he you), sometimes changed plans are the best... And your Plan B sounds full and wonderfully full and productive. That looks and sounds like a beautiful farm...and a picture perfect day. The weather sounds perfect as well. That's quite the pumpkin patch...and I agree - very reasonable pricing (and the pumpkins look great compared to what I saw at Menard's today...for a lot more... Not that I buy my pumpkins at Menards as there are many local stands from which I prefer to purchase, but yikes. Your weather is running parallel to ours (although nothing near 80 in some time LOL), but Fall came in on que...and on the heels of brisk winds and cold rain. I think tonight I will be forced to turn on the heat...or at least have a fire for a while. We have a recirculating pump/fan (?) that keeps the house at a wonderful median temp for many days after the temps dip, but I think it's losing the battle tonight. Here's to hoping the carpet install goes smoothly tomorrow. ~Robin~
So sorry to hear you missed seeing Craig. All we d is Zoom calls now for work. So glad you were able to have a picnic with your friends. Sounded like fun! Looking at that pumpkin patch reminded me I need to buy mums for our stores. Thanks for the reminder! I usually dont buy pumpkins as we have way too many squirrels around here. Janice
