I Can't Believe I Did This!

In all my 62 years of life I never thought I would be doing this in December.
Yep, I mowed the grass one more time....I know I'm wearing a heavy jacket, but the temps were just starting to cool off after hitting 65 degrees on Friday.  And today it was almost 70....in mid December in Northern Ohio...who'd of thunk it?   I guess there's a first time for everything!  We also had a large black walnut tree cut down.
It's hard to tell from this pic, but it's a biggie and after years of mowing those nasty nuts all over the place, or raking them to the creek, or slipping on them in yard, I was very happy to see it go.  Of course it doesn't hurt to have someone come and cut it down and then pay us for the tree...black walnut is good wood!  I'm liking that!
Finally, here's a snowman cake I made for our Church Christmas social tonight.  Looks like that's the closest thing I'm going to get for a white Christmas!  I'm liking that too!

I cut the grass around the first of December but that's not that rare for us. It's been unusually warm for us too these last several days.
I love the looks of that cake. It looks like Emmit Otter:)

Wow! Mowing. That is incredible to me. We are under 10 inches of snow. Near perfect for this time of year. It sure did take it's time in coming though.
Your snowman looks great!

We are having that same warm weather in Georgia too. Just this past week I saw baby birds (killdeer) in the parking lot at work! In December!
I LOVE that snowman cake, LOVE it! xx

Hi, dear YaYa!

This time I'm late to your party. I was up past 1 am last night and I swear your post was not in my reader when I shut down. I don't know what's going on with the weather. It seems likely that the earth has left its orbit and is hurtling toward the sun. :) Here in Florida the heat is still on and we are yearning for at least a few days when the mercury plummets below 85. Our neighbor told us the extended forecast calls for a warmer than normal winter with near record heat. That's the worst possible news for us. Yessum, it surely is true. What is good news for one person is often bad news for another. Another example is that tree you chopped down. The Sasquatch in the Creepy Woods relied on those walnuts as a staple of his diet. :) That's a great looking snowman cake. I'll bet that thing has Chubbs circling the table like a vulture! :)

Have a wonderful week, dear friend YaYa!

I have a few wood working friends who would be drooling over that tree.

Gracious, goodness! No snow? And not even cold? Well then, welcome to my southern world. It's been in the 70's this week with no humidity. Now that's about as perfect as you can get. But at Christmas......please let it be cold!

Mowing in December in Ohio! Very strange. Maybe an outdoor barbecue for Christmas? I like your snowman cake and I bet it's good, too.

That is one cute snowman cake :) I bet it was hard to make too, but I bet it tastes super delicious! That is neat that it is mild for you guys. I know the retailers are probably liking it. When we lived in Montana, they always liked when the weather was pleasant around Christmas, more people went out shopping than if it was snowing, icy, etc. That was neat too you got paid for the walnut wood from the tree :)

I could have cut the grass today too but na, it will have to wait till Spring even though it grew some since the last cut...

Black walnuts makes great natural dye for rug hookers. I'm sure your squirrels will be disappointed about the fallen black walnut tree.

Have a great week Yaya.
Hugs,
JB

Friday and Saturday here felt more like Easter weather than Christmas. But I didn't mow the lawn! Lol.

We have spring flowers sprouting in our yard, but I am not in the least tempted to trim the grass! Can you share the name of the person or business that bought your tree? We have a large walnut and a large maple that need to come down.

As much as I don't like snow, sleet and ice, I love white Christmas. There is something very nice about snow on Christmas morning.
You must be really full of energy or must love a clean lawn to have gone out and mow the lawn. I would be happy to have used the excuse of the month of December. LOL
