Thanks Farmer's Market!

Most Saturday mornings will find us at the farmer's market.  This year I've been excited to gather some delish tomatoes since it will be a while until mine are ready to be picked.  I can probably give the exact day and time when mine will be ready for harvest...the moment Jack and I step off the plane in Oregon later this month to visit our son Craig and his family.  I was so excited to get the trip planned and booked I overlooked the fact that the garden will be ready then and also I was on call the weekend we're there.  I rescheduled my call time but the garden is on it's own!  So off to our local market to shop.  Our weather has really been great the past few weeks.  Although we did hit a high of 90de a couple of days last week, we've managed to get just enough late night rain to keep everything looking good.  Even the mosquitoes are barely biting right now due to the dry spell.  My son Jack and his family stopped by for lunch and most of the meal was gathered at the market.
Green tomatoes were gathered to turn into this:
Fried green tomatoes!
Sprinkle a little basil on these beauties and you have a treat!
One of Jack's patients sells corn at the market so we gave some a try....good and sweet!
This herb bread is made by our friend Maryilyn.  She has a nice variety every week.
My potato salad was not gathered at the market...but it still tasted good!
Texas sheet cake.....made by me...not the market!
Everyone took the food tour around the island and filled up their plates.
Our son Jack.
His sweetie Evelyn. (Thanks for the fruit salad Evelyn!)
Summer and her boyfriend Brett. I love both these kiddos!
After lunch it was time to test the snorkeling skills.
Water balloons anyone?
Evelyn's daughter Megan and Cameron giving a few tosses of the balloons...and getting soaked in the process.
What a cutie!
Fresh flowers from our garden to complete the Summer day....Nice not to have to get everything from the farmer's market, but what we did gather was delish and made for a fun family lunch.  I can't believe it's August already.  Time is flying by...stopping to enjoy the bounty of the season is a good thing! Go visit a local farmer's market and enjoy!

Hi, dear YaYa! You're soon heading off to Oregon, Portland? I will miss you, dear friend. I remember you going out there right around the time you and I started following each other.

I love farmers' markets. I frequently visited them in Central PA and Mrs. Shady and I love to shop at them down here in Central FLA. Unfortunately, the one located in the town we recently moved to closes for the summer season. Mrs. Shady loves the movie Fried Green Tomatoes. She orders them in restaurants and often makes them with our meals at home. Corn on the cob is another favorite of ours. I always liked white better but I would never turn down yellow. It's a summer staple.

It's great to see the latest pics of your family members and shots of kiddos using your backyard pool. I'm glad you have been enjoying better weather. Soon enough you'll be experiencing BITTER weather!

Kathleen, I want to thank you for the excellent comment you left for Janie while I was away on my one week blog break. It was very generous of you and showed lots of class. :)

Enjoy the week ahead, dear friend YaYa!

I love a farmers market. I go when I can. Lately, I've been on the go in different directions, though. You always have fun things going on at your house. Love fried green tomatoes and corn on the cob. Hope you have a great visit out in Oregon.

I have lots of green Roma tomatoes in the garden but they are usually picked when red.
The corn looks tasty and all the yummy food too. Great fun having the family around for a meal.

I really don't know where July went. I barely had time to appreciate it. It was here and gone...

Hope you have a wonderful time in Portland Oregon. One of my blogger friend lives there.
Have a great week. Hugs,
JB

I love hitting the farmers market. It's so hard to resist and I always buy too much for just me. My eyes are bigger than my belly. Lol

we were just talking today about how we haven't visited the local farmer's market this year. now after seeing your bounty, especially those tomatoes, I am ready to go next weekend! We have not had rain in three months and all of July was dry with high 90plus temps. just miserable and not something we are used to. My gardens are crunchy and my one pepper was eaten by some critter so it's pretty ugly out there. So fun you will be visiting Oregon, my neighbor state and such a beautiful one at that. Nice to see your pretty summer photos.

All your food looked delicious whether you made it or purchased it elsewhere. Who can not buy something from a farmer's market? Always such delicious things there! I too cannot believe it is August already! Time keeps just going by so incredibly fast these days.

I think I could even "smell" all your yummy food while reading about it all and seeing the great photos. August is beautiful where you are, as it is here. It's my favorite month!

Very nice. We were late getting our garden in but it's now looking great. Jilda cooked up fres squash and green tomatoes Friday.
If there's anything better than fresh vegetables I'd like to know what it is.
Have fun on the left coast.

There is not one thing I can think of that is better than fresh veggies. Oh they taste so good. Looks like everyone had a great time. Enjoy your visit with your son.

Our farmers market is like a co-op. You pay X amount per week and go to a pick up site for a box of pre-packed garden goodies. You don't know what you're getting. This week our box was tomatoes, peaches, egg plant, squash, lettuce, and green onions. We get the $12 box for 2 people, it helps the farmers and kinda fun to see what you're going to eat that week! There are 3-4 different price range boxes to choose. Love your family being together!! .

We visited the local farmer's market last Saturday...first time for this summer. What were we thinking?!? We scavenged for breakfast and ended up in a pub where one end was opened for Mexican breakfast items. Yummy. Came home with zucchini and Yukon Golds and I spent the afternoon making veggie patties I'd seen on television early that morning :) Another bunch of yummies that lasted a couple days.
