Just "Squeaked" By

I don't do too many posts about our cat Squeak..wait, Jack would say: "She's YOUR cat"! Yes, I'm the one who found her on a rainy, cold November night begging for food at our church.  I'm not a huge cat fan, but I hated seeing her looking so bad and I thought, since we lived in the country, that a good "mouser" would be a good thing.  So I brought her home and took her to the vet to get checked out and also get fixed..you know, took her Saturday night privileges away.  The funny thing about that was the fact that after she was put to sleep and shaved...they discovered she had already been "fixed"...oops.  Oh well, she came home and turned out to be a good mouser and a good chipmunk destroyer.  She was never a very friendly cat. She liked to be petted only if it was her idea and then she would bite you after she'd had enough. The Grandkiddos learned to stay away and admire her from afar! Well, this Winter she has been doing a lot of this:
And this:
I also noticed that she had not been eating or drinking in the past few days.  She hasn't been sleeping in her usual spot either.  She's been hiding out under beds and desks in various parts of the house. All strange behavior.  This morning she was stumbling around and acting like she had had a stroke.  I felt that this was the end. I called the vet and made an appointment to get her checked out and I told them we would probably be having her put to sleep.  When I got home I found her in  the computer room sleeping.  I bundled her up and Jack and I took her to the vet.  They checked her out, did blood tests. She was acting better actually and the vet found out about her "not so nice" side. Sorry Doc about that nasty scratch! Anyway, after looking her and her tests over he said she was dehydrated, had an upper respiratory infection, but was otherwise in good health.  So she got an IV, some antibiotics, and a pain shot. (Not sure she needed that, now we have a cat that's sort of on the "high" side) We brought her home and although she's still not eating, she seems a bit better.  The Vet said give it about a week and we should see her back to her old self. Like this:
And this:
I guess she cashed in on one of her nine lives. We'll see how it goes this week. I'm thinking I'll see this face saying:" Yep YaYa, I got the last laugh!"
Yes, she just "squeaked" by!

I love this and it left me smiling. The same thing happened, sort of, to my daughter and her dog.

I had a cat like yours and his name was Scratches, for obvious reasons. I got him as a tiny kitten and raised him and he, like yours, would only allow petting if it was HIS idea. Whe done with the petting he would turn and just hold an open claw on your arm..no scratchs..unless you persisted..then it was NOT good. My children learned from very early ages to leave the cat alone!
I got him when my oldest son was just five years old and starting kindergarten. He raised all seven of our children and died at 17 years old. He and I had a special relationship. I was his person. :)
Loved your story..so much!

I was holding my breath as I read this one, YaYa. All my life I told myself "I am not the kind of person who likes cats." In recent years, having adopted my new "never say never" policy, I have learned to love cats and have fed and watered several strays in my backyard over that span of time. I just finished feeding one of them, a Maine coon that's been a steady customer since last spring before Toto died. Patches, as I call him, used to hiss at me every day when I approached with the bowl of food. One time he swatted at me and tore open my leg with his claws. I bled like crazy but was not deterred in my quest to befriend and care for him. In recent weeks he has become docile and we are in a comfortable groove.

I hope the vet treatment has Squeak on the road to recovery. I hope he wasn't so high from his pain shot that he turned into a mean drunk, went to a nearby pub and picked a fight with a sailor. :) Squeak might have used one of his nine lives but he has a lot of livin' to do and a lot of mice to catch. This Dell rat plans to keep his distance.

Seriously, I will be praying for your cat and I hope you will give us an update in a week's time.

God bless!

She reminds me of our son's cat Toffu. She would not want any of the petting if she was tired. She was allergic to flea collar so the SPCA took her back.

awww, poor kitty. Hope she's back to normal soon. I like the way she tells you she's had enough. She's the boss. I hope she's nice to sweet Eddy.

That is not so funny for the cat to go for neutering twice. Yikes... at least you know she not pregnant, lol...

I hope that she's bounce back to normal because she such a nice cat and she even goes to church.
Hope you have a nice day Yaya.
Hugs,
JB

She's a survivor! And you gave her a warm home to survive in.

Glad that cat's a good mouser, at least. Sounds like he's not altogether lovable.

It's good to hear that she squeaked by. I hope she's feeling better soon, and that no one else catches whatever she had. (Especially if it was a mouse!)

Love a good cat story, and I'm so glad she "squeaked" through her ordeal. I had a cat, Hannah, that was like yours. The vet told me she was probably from a feral litter and therefore totally unable to be civilised. My nan took her when we went to live overseas. I think Hannah lived til about 18. She was a tough old cat.

That Squeak! So glad she's back to her old self. Ive never been a cat person, but I sure don't like to see an animal moping around not feeling well. And she sure looks purr-ty again.

Haha! That's what you get for taking away her Saturday night privileges. But, really...she's a cutie. Glad she is going to be okay.

HAHA That was funny "taking away her Saturday night privileges." I can't believe she was already fixed! I bet that doesn't happen too often with strays. I'm glad she'll be ok, feisty and all.

Awww poor sweetie. Squeak looks an awful lot like my Zephyr and my long departed Snag... both exactly that shade of grey and white. Snag had Squeak's disposition but Zeph is all gentle and shy. Best thoughts for Squeak to pull through completely. Please keep us posted.

So glad this story has a happy ending. It's amazing to me how resilient cats can be. Yours has quite a look!

Sounds like our cat exactly! How will you get antibiotics in a 'wild-cat'? We've tried and ours will fight it to the death! (Probably mine!)
