How Do You Know?

How do you know it's Fall? I know it's just a few days, or maybe it's hours away, but signs are beginning to appear. This leaf is the only red one on our oak tree in the back yard. Sort of sticks out like a sore (red) thumb. The temps have been very cool...the air crisp...the football season in full swing...the festivals will start up soon. So much to do and so fun to do them!
For some reason I think Fall is the time for projects. Spring is good too, but Fall has me more inspired. I'd been thinking about this one for a long time. I painted the built-in shelves in the kitchen to match my cupboards I painted a few years ago. Even a tiny job like this creates a mess that drives me nuts. I can't wait to finish so I can put everything back in place. Also I will bring all the Fall decorations out too. This shelf unit is a big pain by the way...all the cubbies, all the sanding, cleaning, and extra coats to cover the wood. I hope it looks good when it's done or I just might have to slap myself silly.
I mentioned earlier in the day that a nice fire would be so great. The weather Saturday was perfect for outdoor cooking. Another sign that Fall is here. Can you guess what we cooked? I should say..can you see what we cooked?
I thought foil dinners would be the way to go so I put them together and Jack had the fire just right...I cheated a bit by precooking most of the meal..meat, potatoes, onions, peppers, and of course the mushroom soup. They just had to get nice and bubbly and have that campfire smoky smell...yum!
When we finished the foil dinners I decided to celebrate our fireside meal with some s'mores..Jack doesn't like them but he will indulge in the chocolate bar. I had to roast the marshmellow to perfection first...well, my perfection anyway.
Did I mention that the marshmellow I used was a ginormous one? There really was a piece of a Hershey bar under all that! I only took a few bites then had to call it quits...I don't think I'll bother with those again..Sometimes bigger isn't always better.

Hi honey I bet it will be fall for you guys really soon. I think here we just go from summer to winter. lol
I do dread though all the big leaves that will be falling on my yard in town. Since my renters are moving out at the end of this month guess who gets to take care of the fall leaves. haha
I had to laugh when I saw your desert. I don't understand Jack not laughing these. lol
Have a wonderful week
Love

That is one humongous s'more! I have four healthy sons and two healthy grandsons that would give it a run for its money!

Yep...Fall is coming to North Cackalacky as well. Leaves are just beginning to turn and we've had the first tiniest bit of cooler weather. Inspired some neighbors to crank up fireplaces as I was smelling that delightful odor in the air. Me, I'll wait until my toes tell me it's time!

Hugs~

Fall is my favorite time of year. As a side note, I had a dream this morning that I had a second set of twins. I could use a giant s'more to soothe the soul if that really happened!

That is one honking big marshmallow. But you did cook it to perfection. I usually cook mine twice. Burn it - eat the outside and then re-cook it!

That is huge, I mean the smore. We always wondered if it is smore or some more?
The idea is great if we could just place the crakers in a dish and place melted marshmellows then the candy then crakers and cut it into slices. Little kids like to eat them like that in a plate and all specially little girls with pretty summer dresses.

Looks like a great weekend. We used the big marshmellow and put the chocolate in the middle of the marshmellow. It worked okay....
I'm with Jack, I like to eat my s'more components seperate. You know marshmellow, chocolate, and skip the gramham cracker.

Nice shots. It's been a while since I've cooked anything over a fire except hot dogs or mallows.

I love the fall too. I seem to have more energy. I can sit and think for hours instead of having to pause and take a couple of naps.

We've felt fall in the air 'round the Ozarks the past couple of weeks even though it did hit 80 today.

Yep, the regular sized marshmallows are sized perfectly for a great s'mores!

God bless ya sweetie and have a most beautiful day!!! :o)

YES - a fire in the lawn! That's what I was telling you about! I'm telling you, you Ohio people know how to do it. And you also have the space to do it in. I so wish I could have been there. Or been invited. Even the gigantic burned marshmallow looked good.

Wow! is there anything better than s'mores? We had some Sunday.
Fall is slipping up on us too. It will be in the 70's Friday with lows at night in the 50's.
I'll have to dig out my sweaters :)

This is my first visit here, and I have to tell you, it's a fun spot. Just followed the link over at Nezzy's (isn't she a dear?), and here you were.
Great photos! But you've made me hungry!LOL
Our high country leaves are in full bloom here out west. But I guess I really love your one oak leaf. It's a charmer!

That's one thing that we don't get here......the change of seasons that make for beautiful gorgeous leaves and color everywhere. I am actually the only one I know that hates when our hot hot summer temperatures start to cool down. Right now, I'm afraid it won't be long before we will have to start heating the pool if I am to continue my aerobic pool exercises and goodness knows I need them as long as the outside air will allow me to do these without getting chilled when I get out. If I get chilled, I get asthma and I have that really well under control now.

Your fire looked neat and the dinner in foil had to be great too, but I have never liked s'mores. It's probably because I am not too fond of graham crackers and I really don't care at all for marshmellows. The chocolate would go down well though so Jack and I would get along fine in that respect. I must say that that was some huge marshmellow. I didn't even know they came that big!

A bit too warm here for an outdoor fire..but as soon as it cools down my fire is already laid. :) I have been CRAVING toasted marshmellows...and then you show one... NOW I REALLY want some!

Oh nice. We had our first outdoor fire up at the cottage a couple of weeks back. The obligatory hotdogs and marshmallows made their appearance. We also have a couple of neighbours with backyard fireplaces so we tend to enjoy them throughout the year.

Hi Yaya-
How fun to build a campfire and enjoy your supper cooked that way! (Sort of like being a girl scout - only better!)The smores did make me laugh out loud though~~ that is the funniest picture.

Yes - its going to be fall here whether I like it or not - (mostly or not - because I know what comes next!) Seems like our summer passed WAY too fast!

Hi Yaya! I love the fall too. I don't know why exactly, as some awful things have happened to me, but I still do. I think it's more of a "beginning" for me than New Years, probably because I'm a teacher! I love the crisp air, gorgeous fall colors, crackling leaves, and curling up with a fire, hot cocoa and a good book!

I saw those gigantic marshmallows, but haven't tried any. I tend to just eat 'em out of the bag!

It looks like those shelves will turn out great. I imagine they are a pain, but they look good!

Yaay, I love fall!! I'm excited to decorate for Halloween and to switch out my wardrobe and to drink hot chocolate and to freeze my nuts off walking to my car on campus ...

Oh my goodness, I go MIA for a month and now it's fall!?! Holy moly. I should stop running away into the sunset or else I'm going to miss winter too! Or maybe I should do that... Looks like an awesome time with the s'mores. Jealous! I will definitely be making one of those at some point soon. I miss you and I'm sorry I went missing for a while. It's been lovely catching up on your life xx

Can' wait to see the photo of the tree when all the leaves have turned red, too beautiful, not sure I would like the s'mores look a bit too sweet for me, but the fire looks warm and friendly just like you

I do love foil dinners, the way the tastes all intermingle in such a yummy way.

I also love fall, and it's the smell that usually ushers it in for me...
