Wild And Windy!

The double W week of wild and windy started on Monday with a trip to my dentist to check on a tooth that had cracked.  Then back on Tuesday for him to see if a fix was possible.  Nope. I'm never that lucky! He removed the broken part, sent me to an oral surgeon to remove the rest.  That went down on Friday.  This was a new oral surgeon.  Young, good looking, and it turned out he was also super nice, quick, did a good job and fairly painless. (except for the bill..that part hurt the most!) Plus, he called a few hours later to check on me. I'll give him a good review! In the middle of the week, I painted my dining room.  It wasn't a big job because I just did the upper portion that I though needed refreshing. It's about a shade lighter than the old shade and I'm sure nobody will even notice.  The first person to notice wins a gift card from Amazon!  We'll see if that happens.  The weather was doing the up and down, sunny then rainy dance all week.   But the worst part was the wind. It was super strong and a lot of folks in Ohio lost power.  We were some of those!  My dental appointment on Friday was in the morning and then we had a few hours before the wind knocked down some trees at the end of our road and put us out of commission.  Without power we can't get water from the well to bathe, flush toilets, drink, etc. Oh, and no heat either. We quit burning wood because the temps were too warm.   Of course, on Friday they decided to dip down.  We have 2 fireplaces, but they really don't put out much heat. This isn't our first rodeo on the power front. We probably should have invested in a generator, but we haven't so we do the best we can.  Gallons of water can be used for flushing and drinking and those soapy wipes are good for cleaning ourselves. We were hoping to get the power back quickly, but the whole town of Ashland was out and us country bumpkins are usually last in line.  But the electric company and the tree guys came and worked their butts off to get us up and running and around midnight last night we were good!  The house was a cool 55de and I could have cried when the lights went on along with the furnace.   So hot showers all around and clean dishes too made me feel much better!  So on to next week.  St. Patrick's Day was celebrated in Ashland on Saturday and they dyed the creek green and will do it again on Tuesday.  They held the parade on Saturday because the weather was better.  Tuesday will be only 29de and snowy! Figures!  So have a good week and maybe some corned beef and cabbage will be on the menu!  Here's just a few pics to close me out:

The refreshed upper wall.  Plus some Easter decorations.

Cold temps don't bother these cuties.  The few days of warm helped out too!

I found this bunny at the thrift store, but it was white and pink, so I spray painted it gold. It looks like one of those chocolate bunnies in gold foil!
I found this bunny runner at Hobby Lobby. Ready for the Easter season!

Without a stove I used the grill to make Friday's dinner.  A little breakfast was good!  That's all I have! Over and out!

Seems like the dental stuff is going around. Seems like I've had a standing appt with the dentist or some dental specialist every other week. Sorry to hear about your loss of power. We, too, lost power - also on Friday - but not for as long as you. It was just a couple of hours, but I was still grateful for the generator. Winds here have been horrendous but today/tonight especially so. Up to 50 mph. I'm beginning to think I won't be able to get out of the house until June with the snow and drifting...and, by then, I will have been driven completely mad by the winds. Happy St. Pat's. Never did make it to the store to get my corned beef or fixings bought. I made split pea soup today so, perhaps, being green will make up for it.

Hi, YaYa!

I am terribly sorry that you, Jack and my sweetie pie Annabelle needed to endure such hardships caused by the rampaging weather. (Did you conduct a wellness check on the Yeti in the Creepy Woods?) I keep using this line, but it certainly applies: "It's a long March to spring." To be in the dark, in the cold and have no running water is a very challenging situation, but you and your family pulled through it. Isn't it an interesting phenomenon how happy it makes us just to get back to normal? Makes you wonder why you can't be that happy all the time to simply have the basic necessities of life. As I mentioned in my reply to you at Shady's Place, we could be next to suffer a power outage. Parts of our region are expecting storms with wind gusts up to 65 mph this morning and afternoon, although the forecast for my city is somewhat more tame with wind gusts of 50 predicted. I hope I can be as brave as you, Jack and Annabelle were if I lose the juice.

Getting Mother Nature to settle down and give us decent weather is like pulling teeth, and that brings me to your other ordeal of the week, three delightful trips to dental offices. I'm glad that dismal duty ended well for you. It was nice of the oral surgeon's office to place a follow-up call to make sure you were recovering AOK.

I like your dining room paint job, the bunny you painted gold and the runner that you added to your decorations for Easter. Mrs. Shady went shopping yesterday and came home with corned beef and cabbage, so we're all set for St. Paddy's. Those resilient daffodils are a reminder that hope springs eternal. Hang in there, dear friend YaYa. Spring is on its way.

Thank you for visiting Shady's Place as soon as you were able. Look for my next post coming up fairly soon on the first of April. Until then, stay safe and well and give thanks for everything you've got.

PS: SOrry about the tooth but having good dentists help a lot, I am sure there is a gold mine amongst the pines, to help with the bill. ;-)

So sorry about the cracked tooth, but you got lucky with a good dentist who cares for his patient.

We've been hit with a snow storm also, and freezing drizzle and schools were cancelled because of slippery roads. Today, it's raining. The St John River is wide opened so hopefully the extra water will flow down river.

I love my Generac generator. As soon as the power goes out, it kicks in and we have power over the whole house. I feel guilty when my neighbours loose electricity.

I'm jealous of your daffodils. Mine are not up yet, I only saw one shoot poking out of the ground a few inches on the south side of the house.

Take care and stay safe.
Hugs, Julia

I have to go to the dentist Thursday to finish up my crown procedure. My wallet will also feel the pain. Glad your power went on. We had another windy day with things blown all around again. At least we did not get the blizzard that our state had 3 hours North of us. 35 inches and loss of power up there too. Janice
