January In The Middle

My last post was on January 7th and we were sick.  It's now January 18th and we're still coughing and blowing our noses! But we feel much better and I think Jack is a bit better than me right now.  Oh well, I hear this virus doesn't give up quickly but it's making January a tough cookie!  Even though I haven't felt the best I still try and get outside and take Annabelle for walks.  Breathing in fresh air helps and we've had a few sunny times too.  What do you do when the sun shines in Ohio in the winter?  Take photos of course.

Annabelle likes to sit in the sun and soak it up.  She's by the firepit but no fires in here for a while.

A few drops of vitamin D please!
Sometimes Annabelle needs a little coat on those super cold days. Well, I think she needs it but most of the time she's just fine running coatless!  Saturday, we had snow in the morning and when we pulled into the garage after grocery shopping it was really coming down.
Can you see it?  It was more impressive in person.  But then just a few hours later it was sunny!

Blue skies and fluffy clouds bring a smile to the face!  After a nice time outdoors, I was ready to do some baking and soup making.  I made chicken noodle soup and vegetable soup and because I can't just make a little for the 2 of us, I decided to can the rest.  So I dug out the canner and viola'!

Chicken soup for the soul and then veggie soup to add to the stash for another cold day.  I also made some bread,

Makes good toast! I'm taking soup and bread to my BFF Donna tomorrow.  But why stop there? I also made my favorite Greek pastry: not baklava.  I made galaktoboureko.  It's a custard pastry that also has phyllo dough.

I packed up some for Donna and took some to church for a couple of friends there.  This brings back memories of growing up when mom would make it and my sister and I both agree that it's a favorite to warmup and have for breakfast.  I put the leftovers in the garage fridge so I wasn't tempted to feast more than I should!  We were blessed with clear sunny skies again today and I took Annabelle for a nice walk into the woods and around the Pines.
Hello Mr. Sun.
Super blue skies.
I noticed the sparkle in the snow.  Many tines we only complain about winter without enjoying the beauty that's there to enjoy.  I'm grateful for a pretty day!  Now if this virus would melt away, that would be fabulous!

Sorry you guys have been under the weather. Hope things start looking up. I have eaten baklava in Greece or Turkey, not sure where, But not the other (long name) ;-) . WE do like the puppy, soak u p the sun down here when we can, lately it is scarce. Love from Florida with Tennessee weather for a few days.
Take care of your selves...

Looks like it was soup and bread making this weekend for many. Not me of course. Am tired of the snow. The ice moved in on the river quickly yesterday and now the ferry to the island is closed until further notice. The part about having the ice is the Bald Eagles come in now. Woohoo...but am tired of Winter. It has snow everyday for a week now and snowing right now. UGH Hope you get to feeling better soon. Your dessert would be gone fast in my house. We have no garage fridge. LOL Janice

Hi, YaYa!

Yessum, I had that same virus and it really hangs on. My prolonged period of illness started the day after we had a large family gathering at our house for Christmas. Our granddaughter was sick that day and I must have caught the bug from her when we hugged. I am finally nearly 100% recovered, although I am still blowing my nose and experiencing an occasional cough throughout the day and night. I do hope that you are ridding yourself of that misery so that you can enjoy the rest of winter at The Pines.

My sweetie Annabelle blends in with the snowy landscape. Your big girl camera caught that heavy snow shower perfectly. We awoke this morning to around 2 inches of snow in our neighborhood, and we have a very cold week ahead with overnight temps predicted to drop as low as 11 and a daytime high of only 24 one of those days.

That food and bread you made looks absolutely delicious. I just hung a drool bucket around my neck! :) Say hello to friend Donna for me. She was one of the first people I met here on your blog all those years ago. She's the one who always laughed at my jokes. By the way, please take a thermos of soup down to the Yeti's den in Creepy Woods. Sharing is caring. :) Yessum, I love to see the diamond-like sparkle on fresh powdered snow on a sunny day. There is beauty to behold everywhere if you are willing to look for it.

Please continue on the mend in the coming weeks and I will check back in with you when I return to blogging just before V-Day. Thank you for being there in support of Shady's Place again this year, dear friend YaYa!

Snowy...and bitterly cold here. I was at the lake for almost a week and it snowed there every day...Down here (less than 45 minutes away) we had snow but not as much and it is actually colder here than up there. Woke up to -19º and that was without the windchill. It's supposed to get much colder by the weekend....windchill of -44º on Friday. Soup and bread yes...had bean and ham soup and chicken/wild rice soup...and bread. I've never canned soup before...just, on rare occasions when there's leftovers, frozen it. Your Greek dessert sounds wonderful. I've not heard of that before!!!
