Almost Turkey Day!

If I don't get posting soon it will be 2025!  It's been a busy time for us with Jack getting the office closed and my working more days than normal.  Our Docs are taking off lots of time in December so they're trying to get as much done now.  Poor Jack has folks always asking how he's liking retirement.  They don't understand that he has 47yrs of practice to close out that involves patient records, equipment that needs to be sold or disposed of.   We've sold a few things and will be giving some things away to a local church that has a thrift store that folks can come and get things for free.  What things would we have?  Well, chairs, tables, file cabinets, decor...and the list goes on!  When you are self employed it's not like you can just walk out the door with your gold watch and forget it.  When the company that shreds documents came and took his patient records for shredding it was hard to see his professional life heading out the door.  Jack loves his patients and what he does but time moves on and we have to flow with it and find a new adventure.  So hopefully by the first week of December we'll be there.  This past week brought the first snow of the season:

Just a dusting here even though it snowed all day it just didn't stick more than this.  For some reason the first snow is almost magical and Annabelle and I had a fun walk in the woods and enjoyed the crisp air and pretty flakes.  Come February it will probably have lost its magic!

Annabelle put on her winter duds for the walk.  You can see it melted pretty quick
but the forecast is looking very cold with more snow starting on Thanksgiving.  That will make travel a bit iffy for those driving or flying. Also that means wood burning season will begin to keep us cozy and warm and the electric bill down!   This Thanksgiving we won't have as many around the table  because our grandkiddos from our oldest son will be going to their other Grandmother's house.  We trade off every other year.  The feast will go on here for those who will attend and then we'll be shooting pumpkins as usual if the weather doesn't turn too bad.  The squished up pumpkins will be put into the woods and creek for the animals to enjoy.  I hope everyone's holiday is great and filled with warmth, love and mostly gratitude for blessings.  Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi Yaya. I know that Jack will be missed by all of his patients. A good, caring doctor is a real treasure and sometimes hard to find. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. Have a good week and I will see you again soon!

Hi, YaYa!

I'm glad we synced-up on a Sunday, dear friend. It's great to see you again!

Mrs. Shady and I live over to your east, and we got a few snowflakes, too, along with ice pellets. The wind was gusting and the weather conditions were downright raw. Our forecast calls for overnight lows well down into the 20s starting Black Friday, continuing through next weekend and into the following week. That will be the coldest air of the season. Even so, I have absolutely no regrets about moving north. Your first snow scenes are pretty. They remind me of the picture you posted all those years ago showing the snow covered Creepy Woods. That picture prompted my very first mention of seeing the Yeti deep in the background. The rest is blogging history. :) I know our furry friend will be thankful for the mashed-up pumpkins so that he can bake himself a pie. My sweetie Annabelle looks adorable wearing her winter coat. Sorry you won't have your usual full house to celebrate turkey day. I know the bittersweet feeling Jack is experiencing as he sheds documents, furnishings and equipment gathered over the decades in his practice. Soon all the work will be done and he can truly retire as he should.

Thank you for visiting Shady's Place. I will get started on my reply as soon as I finish here. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your wonderful family, dear friend YaYa!

Transition periods are always difficult and closing one's life long practice has to be one of the worst. So many memories, so much history...so much change. Hoping it goes as smoothly as possible as Jack lets go. We woke up to white and it is still snowing off and on. I don't think we're supposed to get more than 3" though. Then the cold rolls in of course. There won't be Thanksgiving here once again at all... I should be used to it by now but still I'm not. Wishing you a Thanksgiving holiday filled with blessings and memories - new and old. ~Robin~

We are always just us even though daughter invites us but she has quite a crowd and we have such a busy December it is our day of rest before it all kicks in.

Retiring a business is tough. I would like to sell the farm business but it's a large area to sell with all the equipment, lands and buildings, etc, plus we are in a flood zone. Flooding never used to be a problem but now, things have changed. How I would love to be totally retired from all this. Wishing you both some quality time together.
Hugs,
Julia
