Fall Back

This past weekend we had the fun opportunity to "fall back".   Not every state in our great country does this irritating ritual.  Yes, I said irritating.  I know, I know...but YaYa, we get an extra hour of sleep.  Huh? Really? I woke up at the same time on Sunday which turned out to be too early but I can't go back to sleep so I stay up and then take an hour (or 2) nap in the afternoon....which makes it hard to get to sleep in the evening so I stay up and now it's 11:00pm and my brain says it's midnight but I still can't sleep so I'm up forever until it's time to get up on Monday and now I'm tired because I'm missing that stinkin' extra hour of sleep...and that has to be the longest sentence in history!  See what I mean about irritating?  What else is irritating about this time change shananagans? Well, all the clocks have to be turned back so we can have that lovely extra hour.  I shouldn't complain because Jack actually does all the clock changing.  Except for one...my car.  Now I've had that car for 13yrs.  Yes, it's old but it runs and of course it's paid for! Anyway, I've changed the clock twice a year for 13yrs. You would think I could manage that without looking in the owner's manual wouldn't you? Well, guess what...I can't.  I also forget to do it for a few days and every time I look at the clock I get panicked because I think I'm late.  But then I remember I haven't changed the stupid clock so I have an extra hour. Ha! Today I thought I was smart enough to do the change without digging the manual out of the glove compartment.  Of course it didn't work right and I finally had to admit I'm car clock challenged and looked it up.  Now I'm on time.  Great.  Now let me tell you about work.  Some of the clocks changed on their own. I called them "anatomical" clocks.  Yeah I know,  that's not the right term.  On Monday my work buddy Kim comes in to give me a morning 15min. break.  Or so I thought.  Here's our conversation: "Hey Kimmy, you giving me a break?"  Kim: "No I'm giving you lunch". Me: "But it's only 10:30".  Kim: "No, it's 11:30".  Me: "No, it's 10:30....(I'm now pointing at the clock)" Kim: "Huh?...The clock at the scrub sink says 11:30. Remember, we have a time change" Me: "Yeah, but we go back in time...oh never mind, I'm going on break".  We were leaving work today and waiting for elevator when I noticed a bunch of clocks on the window sill.  I asked why they were all sitting there.  The answer: "Oh, we have to put them in the sun to get them to change back an hour."  Blink, blink.   I'm thinking I might need to sit in the sun for a bit so my body clock will jump back an hour.  Maybe if I sit in the sun long enough I can go back about 20yrs.....great, I'll have to change my car clock again...forget it.

Ok, you did it. You made me laugh. I remember the torture of trying to change the clock on previous cars. You just feel like going all Thelma and Louise!
But I love this time change. I happily slept away my extra hour. Now next spring when I'm 1 hour sleep deprived.....not so happy

It is kind of like forced jet lag.

I just leave my car clock, it will be right in 6 months and like you I need the manual to change it, well sometimes my wife figures it out for me.

Fun post...and accurate.

LOL. I hear ya, GF! I can't count the number of gals I know who are having a tough time with the time change. Speaking of "change", ever since I went through the change my sleep has been a mess so the time on the clock doesn't mean a lot to me. Still haven't changed my car clock yet.

Hi, dear YaYa! Your blog layout gets more attractive every time I visit. I love the pumpkin orange and other fall colors you used along with the flock of turkeys. Well done!

I agree about the changing of the clocks twice a year. It's more trouble than it's worth. By the time our body clocks get adjusted to falling back it'll be time to spring forward.

I always feel jet lagged, same as you, particularly in the fall when we're supposed to enjoy that bonus hour of sleep. It simply doesn't work out that way. "You can't fool mother nature."

Thank you for the smile, dear friend YaYa, and again congratulations on doing such a splendid job with the look of your blog. I hope Eddy's leg has healed and that he can make it back over to his old stomping ground, the Pines, very soon. God bless!

This is the first year the time change has caused me to feel somewhat depressed. However, I have been sleeping great! And I did change all the clocks with no problem.

I understand your irritation. But my irritation over the time change comes in the spring when they take that hour away from me. Grrrr.

We still haven't change the microwave clocks and my van. I miss the light in the evenings; don't like it getting dark at 5 p.m. especially since I need to walk Koda after work (I get off at 5 p.m.). But we make it work :)

I am with you on the horror of it I have been hungry at the wrong time. waking up and laying in bed waiting for that extra hour to pass and trying to sleep at the right time at night.

Oh yes, so many hick-ups to keep track of, and we didn't even talk about how dark it is at 5pm..

I'm like you on that time change. I wake up at 5:00 am. the new time but in my reality it's 6:00am. I just can't stay in bed.

The cows don't know that the time has changed. They still wait at the gate to enter the milking parlor so we ease them in by adjusting their time little by little.

I never thought about changing my car clock. I'll get my son to do it as I don't have a manuel with my car. I bought it secondhand and there was no manuel with it.
Hope you stay safe on the road.
Hugs,
JB

Ha, ha! You make me smile every time! Yeah, I hear ya...that car clock thing. Hubs changes all the clocks in the house but forgets the car for a couple days. Takes me about three days to get back in time. :)

You're a hoot!

I have never minded the time changes.. except that this one heralds winter. We're lucky that all of our clocks have changed time automatically.. except for the microwave. Hmm... not sure if I noticed the car yet or not.. hmmm.

Ha ha! I feel like I could have written this post. At least the first half, before you headed to work. :) I can't figure out where the extra hour was, but I sure do hate the super early darkness. I wonder if it really does save any energy in our modern age, or do all of our machines suck in the same amount of power anyway?
