The Yummy Summy

August brings happy days if you're fond of the heat and humidity of Ohio.  I can't say its on my favorite things list but I can say I love the fruits of the season. The tomatoes are ripening and biting into one fresh from the vines brings a yummy to the lips and memories of being a kid with a big ripe tomato, a salt shaker, and a shady spot to enjoy it! Jack and I headed to the orchard today and came home with donut peaches, sweet cherries, and early premium honey crisp apples. Jack threw in a few Amish fry pies just for more yum factor. Have you had a fry pie?  So many flavors, so delish!

The donut peaches are shaped like little donuts and have a wonderful flavor!
Fry pies are a treat and easy to eat!  This heat is keeping me indoors so cleaning is on my to do list. We got our 2nd shingles shot on Saturday and its had a few side effects that made us a little under the weather yesterday.  Feeling a little better today. If you've had that vaccine did it bother you? We didn't think of taking it until my brother got a horrible case of shingles in the Spring.  I can put up with a little discomfort instead of what he had to deal with! Anyways,  all's good this summer day and we have some good yummy stuff to enjoy! Carry on August!

Never heard of donut peaches but they look cute. We had peaches for dinner tonight. Hubby made bbq chicken with a peach sauce. It was yummy. Janice

My mom and dad (and the rest of my family) were/are HUGE fresh tomato fans...Me, not so much. (Just another reason my dad always said they brought the wrong baby home from the hospital. LOL). Looks like a very successful orchard run! It's hard to believe apples are ready already. And peaches...yikes. I don't think I've had one in years. But peaches and cream were a summer staple for us when my mom bought crates to can.

I was miserable after the shingles shots. My upper arm got red and hard and too sore to touch. I used to have this same reaction to Tetanus shots. It was better after a couple of days, but it sure hurt for a while!

Hi, YaYa!

I am swinging back into your orbit for the month, dear friend, and very happy to see you! I think I told you at least once before that I share your memory of eating freshly picked tomatoes with a shaker of salt in hand. When I was very young, our family lived in the country. We had a large vegetable garden and I especially enjoyed the tomato yield. I used to sit on the back porch and eat them, applying salt to the "wound" as I went along. Problem is, I also had a bad habit of eating our dog's Milk-Bone biscuits at the same time. I remember my aggravated mom banging on the window and shouting at me to put the biscuits down and step away from the box. :) Even worse, I was still engaging in the practice at age 30. :) You and Jack brought home a bounty of delicious looking foods from your shopping trip. Mrs. Shady and I currently have honey crisp apples and cherries on hand, but when it comes to donut peaches, I am wearing the dreaded dunce cap. I don't think I have ever seen or tasted one. There is a farmers market near our house and I will instruct Mrs. Shady to be on the lookout for them. Occasionally she brings home what I believe to be those fruit and cream filled Amish fry pies. They bring to mind the Pennsylvania Dutch Fasnachts we used to eat back in York on Shrove Tuesdays.

Thanks for reminding me to get my second shingles shot. I certainly don't want to be stricken with that awful condition. On Thursday, I am officially returning to active blog duty with the first post of my 18th year. Hope you can join the fun at Shady's Place, dear friend YaYa!

Those peaches look interesting, bet they are good. And fresh tomatoes, make me a sandwich! Fried pies, you are talking my language. Yum! So hot here, I can watch my butterflies, thats it!

I have never tried a fry pie but now I am curious! Looks delicious! I do love peach season though! We had some donut peaches that were so juicy they dripped all over our rugs and we had to have the carpets cleaned. Hope you are having a great end to your summer!
