Saturday was filled with the usual doings. Chores, errands, laundry...you get the picture. But we heard a nasty rumor that snow might be heading our way. (Winter is always trying to butt in!) We still had outdoor things that needed done. Furniture that needed stored...snowblower that needed fired up...wood burner that needed a jump start. It was cold but sunny yesterday and we got the jobs done. We also were watching Addy and Lexi for Phil, so Jack thought a trip to the Creepy Woods was in store....not that we were trying to wear them out or anything....not us!
I was lagging a bit behind but soon caught up. Good thing I had a walking stick as I hobbled with my bad knees!
The dynamic duo were a bit taken back when we told them they had to rake all the leaves in the woods into the creek. I should have snapped a pic of those faces! I told them they were off the hook because I left the rake back at the house. Hey, if you can't pick on your Grandkiddos, who can you pick on?
We headed back down to the house as the sun was setting. If you look close you might see the smoke from the chimney as our wood burner was humming along and keeping it nice and toasty in the house.
Tonight the snow was coming down and starting to cover the hidden deck furniture. We'll see by the morning if we get those predicted 3-5in.
I made a cup of cocoa and headed up to post this....ahhh... On a completely different note, my Sister sent some more pics of my Dad I didn't have. They were from WWII...I know it's no longer Veteran's day but I'm going to share these anyway.
A rare shot of Dad without a smile.
That's more like it! I have more but I'm saving them for another day. Time to finish off the cocoa and get ready for Monday and work...the weekend sure goes fast!

What is in your cocoa? One looks like a marshmallow but what is the other thing? I've been wanting hot chocolate and I was at the store no less than 3 times this weekend and forgot it everytime :(
Hi, dear YaYa! I had to laugh at the part where you kidded the grandkiddos about raking all the leaves in the woods. If you hiked deep enough into the Creepy black forest to lose sight of the house, I hope you left a trail of bread crumbs to find your way back! Spot any Yeti droppings? Well, I didn't see my buddy Eddy snooping around in any of the pictures so I must assume that he was not visiting this weekend.
Winter's knocking on the door up there in Ohio and soon you'll feel like you dodged a bullet if the snow is limited to 3 to 5 inches.
It was nice to see more pictures of your dad. He looked great in uniform and you have every reason to be proud of him. If he was still with us I know he would be proud of you for your dedicated service at the hospital. He would also be proud of you for keeping this Whispering Pines blog/diary as a permanent record of your beautiful family's evolution.
Be careful walking and driving in that white stuff, dear friend YaYa, and have a happy week ahead!
Teasing Grandchildren is part of the job description.
So true about weekends going fast! How cute telling your granddaughters of the leaves they would have to rake :)
I hope you don't get too much of the snow! So early in the season I think!
betty
Stay warm and try and keep up with those cute grand kids!!
Oh those Fall chores that need priority. Having the wood heat on is big priority in this cold weather....
I'm still waiting to have our wood stove installed on the 27th, on time for my birthday, in the mean time my power bill is mounting up...
Those kiddos looks adorable hugging each others in the spooky woods.
Hope you don't get too much snow.
Stay warm and have a great week...
Hugs,
JB
The girls are just adorable and the photos of your dad.. so wonderful. I love your connection with past, present and future family.
But tell me.. what in the heck is floating in your cocoa?
sweet grand girls! and boy are they interested in your cocoa and by the way what do you have in there.
Great picture of your dad.
Cathy
I love the title of this post. You have a talent for writing in a poetic manner. It must feel nice to be a health and science person and be so good with words, ( I mean in literary sense.
Nice to see pictures of your dad. Thanks for sharing them.
I loved the title of this post. Winter has definitely smashed on the toes of Fall here in North Texas and we even had a dusting of snow this morning. Your Granddaughters are just soooo cute and I can imagine the giggles from the two of them and relief at not having to rake. The pictures of your Dad are really nice. It's always a good day to share a pic of your Dad!
Now, I'm very curious to know if that is a sweet potato in your cocoa. :-/
