Mud Season

Yesterday I was out in the yard observing the new season...I lovingly call it "mud season".  The temps were an amazing 65 degrees with sun and blue sky. The yard was mushy, muddy, and Eddy's paws were dirt filled! I sat outside and let the sun warm my face while I basked in the joy of it all.  I felt like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz when she walked into Technicolor Munchkin land! I noticed these sweet signs of Spring:
Plants that will shoot up even though a few days ago they were covered in snow.
The mounds of dirt and overturned soil mean only one thing around here....skunks! We smelled them last week but didn't see them...just the calling card they left looking for grubs!
The depleted wood pile.
The mud driveway in need of stones that will have to wait until we're sure no more snow.
Last week we went to pick up coal that we supplement the wood heat with,  and I thought I'd get a shot of the owner's cool "wheels".
It was also laundry day I guess!  All these sweet signs of Spring were dashed back like a clock in the fall....today the snows returned:
The temps dropped like a ton of bricks and the winds blew hard to blizzard like conditions that closed schools down again.
Maybe I just need to brush off the chair and sit and think about this for a bit...sigh.  I'm back in Ohio winter Toto. (I mean Eddy)

I represent the Lollipop Guild, The Lollipop Guild, The Lollipop Guild
And in the name of the Lollipop Guild,
I wish to welcome you to Muchkinland.

Hello, dear YaYa! Well, I must have seemed pretty stupid in my reply to your comment on my blog when I wrote that I hope spring was gaining a foothold and the latest blizzard missed you. I'm so sorry you had a brief sampling of warm weather only to have it abruptly snatched away again. It's that dang groundhog's fault!

I'm confident the snow will melt quickly, those sprouting plants will reappear, spring will get back on track and life will be good again (as long as Eddy doesn't corner one of those skunks somewhere).

Good night and have a pleasant Thursday, dear friend YaYa!

oh you had me going there with all the springy-stuff. Then the last 2 pictures of more snow. What a bummer! Maybe another week or two it will be all spring again for good.

Ha! Ha! It's making you long for mus season again, isn't it?! ^_^ And I know exactly what you mean!...because we had gorgeous 52 degree weather day before yesterday, and now....tons of rain...sleet and ice....and the WHITE STUFF!! UGH! I'm sure Spring is coming, but now I'm not sure Spring isn't gonna look like winter!! LOL

Bryden was with us as we drove own the drive yesterday after the snow. I said "Welcome to the Winter Wonderland!." He looked out the window and said "-where?"......

I was envious because of your sprouts until i saw that you got dumped on too.
Donna's comment is too funny.
I'm still envious because your new snow will melt in the blink of an eye and I still have tons of old snow to process.
Hugs anyway, try to have a good day.

Perfect time for Eddy's paw prints on a T.Shirt may be?
We have sleet and roads are like skating rinks. There is a promise for better temps. tomorrow and Sunshine too.

At least there is the promise of spring. And it sounds like you know how to enjoy it, while it's there. The snow? Well, you know how I feel about it. UPS delivers everyday.

How thankful you must be for the occasional Spring-like day, mud and all. Too much snow, huh? Soon. Very soon, dear Friend.

I was going to head for Ohio until I saw that you also got a fresh coat of snow! You still have reason to celebrate the imminent arrival of Spring.... Here in Michigan we have not even had enough sun to melt our record breaking snowfalls and temperatures! Since we haven't even seen the ground yet...seeing the muddy ground will (this year) be kind of exciting!!

Now we know what is under the snow, and those blossoms will be here right around the corner. :)

I wish I could say that I know the feeling but we haven't had anything even remotely resembling spring around here. So it's very nice to have experienced yours through your lovely photos however short-lived it was. May it return in earnest real soon.

When the snow is completely gone and your Spring is well and truly arrived, will all of you run naked into the street shouting for joy? I think I would be tempted! (But I would have to keep my clothes on, or people would wish for snow again! HA!)

Things are looking up! Toward the sun :) So glad spring has finally arrived for you!

This is an odd time of year here too. One day it's warm enough to swim and the next day you need longhandle underwear :)

There's something wonderful about having really distinct seasons, isn't there? You really appreciate that greenery more.

(I remember from when we lived in Chicago for three years right after Dave and I were married.)

I know I am repeating myself honey when I say I don't know how you all handle the cold temps and snow like you do.
Glad you had a few hours to bask in the sun and I know when the snow came back so soon you tried to click your heals to be some where warmer.
We are having warmer days here and then a cold front will blow in. Not your kind of front but cold enough for me anyway. haha
I miss you and hope that I can come back again soon and see some spring flowers in your yard.
Love ya
Maggie

Crazy day last Wednesday. We were trying to get Kota home with planes canceling flights. We ended up having to buy a second ticket just to get him home. I can't wait for consistent 50s and 60s. I'm tired of snow days and inside recess. Looking forward to "mud season."
